Great everyday and essential travel gear
This definitely an essential to carry for every day. I have a few. I tuck one with travel cords, attach one to earbuds and one to keep in my backpack for everyday use but that has a usb-c so I can charge while the aux is in use.

Poor implementation of the TRRS standard
This has a few flaws: 1. If you unplug the headphone cable from the adapter, it does NOT signal to the device to stop playback. This is expected: other adapters (and built-in headphone ports) do stop playback in this case. 2. If you plug in a cable or headset that does NOT have a microphone into the adapter, it does NOT allow you to use the built-in microphone. This is expected: other adapters (and built-in headphone ports) detect that the attached headset is only TRS and therefore has no microphone, which allows the device to fall back to its internal microphone. As a result, this adapter cannot be used to make a call because the other side cannot hear (and there is no way to resolve this from the device's settings).
