Power, Power, Power!
I just received this and used it for the first time yesterday. If things change I'll update the review. Pros -Ample Power. I immediately took to using this to cut brush on a steep hillside. Neither the blade nor propulsion ever bogged down. The propulsion with the big wheels was relentless; it did some pretty serious climbing yesterday -Easy height adjustment. I used this quite a bit yesterday; it works effortlessly. -Briggs and Stratton Engine - I just sold my 30 year old Murray push mower with a 4HP Briggs and Stratton engine that still started easily and ran flawlessly because I needed a self propelled model. I think I bought it for $100 new way back then. After all of these years of use I put it on FB marketplace and was absolutely flooded with responses so I probably should have asked more than the $60 price I put on it. Bottom line, unless something has changed and I hope it has not, these engines will run forever. -Easy to maneuver when not using self propel. In tight areas and around trees you need to be able to simply push and pull the mower around manually. With some self propelled mowers this can be cumbersome, with this mower it was no problem. -Comes fully assembled - all you have to do is attach the handle and you don't even need any tools to do this. Cons -The mower weight is not balanced. The engine is offset mounted to the left (when looking down on it from the handle) and so when you're on a really steep incline the mower will want to turn over. If you're cutting on a steep incline you need to plan your attack accordingly just like when cutting a steep incline with any mower. -Side vent gets easily knocked out of place. It's just held on with interlocking plastic so if you brush it aside a tree or other obstacles it will come off. Overall, a very good mower and good value so I'm rating it a 5 star even with the couple of cons that I've pointed out.

Doesnt work!
Assembled. Added correct gas and oil included. Doesnt start. Cant return and customer service wont help. Manufacturer doesnt answer calls. DO NOT BUY THIS! PRICEY ITEM TO NOT WORK DAY 1!!!!! Update... Amazon attempted to intervene, but manufacturer responded with blanket troubleshoot. Warranty company suggested repair with 4 to 6 week wait to be seen bc of back up of repairs (not a good sign). So, we are stuck with a broken out of box mower with the option to have repaired sometime mid summer....on a lawnmower we bought new to simply mow grass. What do we mow our grass with weekly until mid summer? (Buy another? Pay for services? ). Why is this mower not subject to Amazon or ANY sales policy for defective product? (Taking video daily of trying to start mower when suggested to wait 2 hours....my neighbors live the daily "maybe today it starts? Day 1, 2, 3 etc video with witnesses" This problem has already cost me in week since purchase. Not to mention I still have paid in full for a non working item! Run, don't walk buying elsewhere! I only wanted to purchase something that worked while buying. The sellers got the $ the day I ordered and my only crime is expecting the product to work. Instead, I have to spend countless hours emailing 3 companies that each refer to another. Update..still no resolve. We just paid someone to mow our lawn as we coukd wait no longer get a refund to buy another mower or have a replacement shipped. Amazon noted they will take another week to file AZ warranty, but in meantime, the 3rd party seller won't reply. Update! No reply from seller. A call to Amazon started A to Z warranty, but new rep said will take full week to start claim, and 4 to 6 weeks for refund.... Paid 1st time to have grass mowed since I don't have working mower. $ 90 So this mower will AT VERY LEAST cost me more than I paid for it waiting for refund or exhange! Documentation is key. Add time for assemble/ disassemble/ re boxing/ time spent on Amazon calls or 42 unanswered calls to seller....

Great reel for beginners
I suddenly reached the age where I care about how my lawn looks. It happened without warning or explanation. To my wife’s chagrin, I have recently spent many hundreds of dollars on lawn equipment, chemicals, and supplies. I also discovered the existence of reel mowers. After finding a manual reel at a thrift store, I’ve been on the hunt for a used gas powered reel. Having been unsuccessful thus far, I stumbled upon this Yard Force. Pros: - Price - I paid $150 for the mower with 2 batteries. Replacement batteries themselves are $50 from Home Depot, so the mower itself is basically $50. - Ease of Assembly - the mower came almost completely assembled. Only the handlebars had to be attached and the grass catcher assembled. All in all, assembly took less than 5 minutes. - 2 batteries - Reviews online seem to indicate this mower was previously sold as Sam’s and/or Costco with only one battery. This one comes with 2, and the batteries came essentially fully charged so I was able to mow right away - Maneuverability - I had no trouble maneuvering the unit around my yard. It’s reasonably lightweight and very easy to push, pull, and turn. - Manual mode - if the battery dies, the mower will still cut manually as the reel is connected by a planetary gear to the wheel. Very handy if the battery dies just before you’ve finished mowing. - Noise - The mower is extremely quiet. I was able to hear my AirPods over its noise Cons: - Replacement batteries - I assumed replacement batteries would be plentiful. My research thus far seems to indicate that the only place to purchase batteries is Home Depot for $50 each. It would be nice to have options, and it concerns me that the batteries could be discontinued at any time. - No stripes - The downside of the lower weight of the mower is that it isn’t heavy enough to lay down stripes. It may be possible to modify it for striping, but I have no yet explored that option. - Safety switch - In order to run the mower, one must depress a side safety switch immediately prior to pulling on a bail with the same hand. The positioning of the switch is awkward, and I often have to push the button twice to make sure it registers a press. I would prefer to bypass that switch. - Battery life - unfortunately it seems the only batteries available are 2.0ah, so they don’t last all that long. - Cut Quality - I noticed that The mower would occasionally miss single strands. I suspect that I just need to adjust the reel-to-bed knife, but it’s an issue nevertheless. - Small Grass catcher - I found myself Having to empty, the grass catcher quite frequently as it would fill up quickly. Overall, I am willing to live with the cons. In the coming weeks and months, I will assess the durability of the mower and update my review accordingly.

Much better than expected.
I'd give this mower five stars, but let's keep it real... If you require the power of a gasoline or corded electric mower, this machine isn't for you and I understand why some folks might give it poor marks. That said, let me explain why I like this machine and recommend it if your needs are similar to mine. I have a dense TifTuf bermuda. I couldn't sustain the strength needed to push my manual reel mower through it. It would grab or scallop and it was too heavy to use on a slope. The Yard Force machine looks, feels and sounds like a toy. It is not self-propelled but light and easy to push and maneuver. It will only trim a few millimeters of dense lawn at a time but leaves a nice evenly manicured look. If it starts to bog down, I simply slow my forward progress. On my first mow, I left the cutting height at the default 38mm (1 1/2 inches). The 1.5Ah battery lasted 20 continuous minutes and got me through approximately 400 square feet of turf. Slow, but I never broke a sweat. If it bogged down, I just restarted it and slowed down. The RPMs noticeably drop as the battery nears exhaustion. The first battery was fairly hot when I swapped it for the included second. The machine did power through a small area of tall fescue with no problem at all. Because it can only crop a modest amount of bermuda height, I anticipate needing to mow at least twice a week. For me, that's a reasonable trade off for not having to wrestle with the push mower. BTW, the suggestion that the machine can operate as a manual mower without a battery is fantasy. This mower is the only game I found at this price point. I can no longer buy a gas mower in California and there aren't any heavy duty battery powered reel mowers on the market. Those on the horizon are predicted to cost four figures. According to the seller, spare batteries can be purchased. They don't correspond to any I have for my other cordless power tools. Do read the instructions carefully, paying particular attention to the starting procedure. (Tip the machine slightly and let it reach full RPMs before engaging with the lawn.) Pros Inexpensive Easy assembly Light and maneuverable Nice even trim Cons Underpowered Slow, thin shaves Durability unknown

Love this
We got the box delivered and it was on its side instead of flat and the paper inside said it should stay flat or right side up during transit but we didn't find anything wrong with it upon opening and assembling it This machine is large. I didn't expect it to be this big but I'm SO happy with it! Both front and back yard was completed so quickly!!! The assembly was easy enough but mostly because I have done this kind of thing before. There was little to no instructions inside on how to assemble this thing. One piece of paper with 4 pics and little to no words to describe or explain what to do. And I didn't see any code to scan to bring up a video or anything either. This one drawback but not anything that would affect my rating of the function though! I just know some people may be interested in that part After assembly, was able to get the oil and gas in with no issues whatsoever and the first crank was so satisfying. Started up with no issues at all. Our grass has gone like a month or so without cutting and there are patches that are so thick it's literally shut down professional landscaper's lawnmowers before. This thing cut right through them like butter. There was one or two spots that sounded like it was wanting to bog down, but this machine ate it like a champ! And the self propelled function is INSANE!!! Nearly snatched the machine out of my hands! All I had to do was steer and this thing took off and did all the work. Overall I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Well worth every penny!!!!!

Doesn't restart. Edited
Mower came 1 day early. Great. Put it together. Very easy. Put the oil in it. Between the hash marks. Filled with fuel. The mower started first pull. Wow off to a great start. Began mowing. Filled the grass catcher up. Shut the mower off. Emptied the catcher . Went to restart the mower to continue mowing. Won't restart. That was 2 days ago tried on and off friday and today. So far nothing. I can recomend this mower ... Edited......After having time to look at the mower. The bail brake,( or as they call it," on-off handle ." Cable came loose,or wasn't snapped in correctly or whatever . Mower runs like a charm. Only problem i have if you want to call it that. Is that the self propel is set so high you have to run with it.. lol.....i'm sure there's a way to slow it down." I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS MOWER. " NICE MOWER

YOU'VE BEEN WARRRNNNNNNNED !
Do youself a favor and belive the negative reviews !!!! This thing is awful. First of all the box arrived all ripped up with clear packing tape sloppily holding it together. It looked as though someone had returned it. The only assembly required is attaching the handle, and the bag for grass clippings. Then you just add the oil and gas. Straight out of the box, sitting on level ground only 3 of the 4 wheels touch the ground. Something must be bent. When I tip the mower forward so that the wheel touches it makes a scraping sounds from underneath when i push it. It started right up, that's the only positive. When you squeeze the self propell lever it takes off ... there's NO WAY TO CONTROL THE SPEED !!!! It goes from 0 to 60 as soon as you apply pressure. The mower pops a wheelie and takes off. You literally have to RUN to keep up with it. When you let go of the lever it is hard as heck to push and maneuver. I mowed through some thick grass, it never stalled out, but it didn't cut great. It laid the grass down and I had to go back over the area multiple times in different directions. It is awkward and painful on your hands to squeeze both of the levers the whole time you are mowing. My palms of my hands felt bruised the next day. I HATE this mower. Maybe if you have a completely flat yard you can run behind it, but if you have roots, trees, flowers beds, curbs, ot an irregular shaped lawn STAY AWAY from this mower. It is so hard to control and sooo fast ... IT'S DANGEROUS AND RIDICULOUS. I wish I had believed the reviews. I thought I could keep up with it. Now I'm stuck with this expensive piece of garbage. I tried to return it, but Amazon just leads you in an infuriating loop on their website that just keeps taking you to a troubleshooting page every time you try to initiate a return.

Not worth it for me to switch from my rotary ro reel mowing
I got the electric reel mower. I want to say that I see the purpose and benefits of reel mowing, but I cannot say the process is very adaptable for several reasons. It is time consuming. The deck width is not as wide as I'm used to with my ego mower so I ended up spending more time going over the same strip. Poor battery life. I have less than a 1/4 acre and I've mowed the whole yard twice. The mower came with 2x 20v batteries. Both times, I had to swap out the batteries 4 times. Ali had to either wait for the batteries to charge fully or use half charged batteries to finish mowing. Needless to say, I can. I longer cross mow. With the Ego, I was able to mow the whole yard and cross cut with 1 full battery. Not self propelled. I knew this getting it, I had hoped that since it is lighter than the Ego, I'd be able to go up and down my hill a bit easier, but that was not the case. I do feel a bit safer that I am not being pulled or am sliding down the hill with the heavier ego, but the Yard Force is still pretty tough to push up the hill. As the basket gets heavier with clippings (which collects half and spits out half), I had to stop and go too many times. The mower gets heavier to push with the collected clippings and I still end up with mounds of clippings left behind that was blown out of the mower. Which made the basket pretty pointless... Overall, these were only a few of my personal experiences. I think this was a good concept to have a powered reel mower, but Yard Force would certainly consider more improvements. In its current model, imthisnis best for condo owners or for those who own much smaller yard space. I imagine any improvements to make reel mowing more adaptable for most homeowners would drastically increase the price of the mower, e.g., widen the mower, add self propelled feature (or easier to push), better clipping collection, increase battery power/life, etc. but at a minimum this mower can cut pretty low for HOC reset or near scalping... at least low enough for me as a new reel mower user. Side note, my neighbornis an experienced reel mower. He tried cutting a few steips and he didn't really care for the unit for his own reasons...
