AVOID
Avoid these lapidary discs. They deglazed in spots after just a few hours of normal use. Worse, they left deep scratches in my stones that forced me to go all the way back to an 80-grit wheel to grind them out. I was unable to test them until after the return window had already closed, so I am stuck with a useless product. Amazon simply does not sell decent lapidary discs. Do yourself a favor, save your money, and buy yours from specialized lapidary stores instead.

not flat
I ordered an 800 and 1200 grit disc for my lapping machine to lap alumina. Both discs looked okay and the 800 one worked okay. It was relatively flat and cut smoothly. However, the 1200 grit disc was not flat and the coating was not as uniform. This meant that it had to be broken in longer until it cut consistently but it still was not flat (the steel disc is not flat and so although it could be used to obtain a decent surface finish on a small part it would not work well to lap a larger part flat.

These have a very short life and had varying size grit on the plate which just scratched all my stones and put me back to square one.

Time will tell
The first thing I noticed was that the back seemed to have some bubbles in the finish (second photo). It could indicate a problem but may be nothing. The face surface appears to be evenly coated. The lap seems to be flat, no warping. It will take a bit of use to be able to tell how well the coating adheres and if the lap remains true. I look forward to testing it out.

Solid product.
It's perfect on my 8" lapidary machine for fine shaping my opals, before moving on to prepolish.
