Question 1

Is it easy too fill as we will be getting 2 bags of coal however I have rheumatoid arthritis so would the coal man be able too put it in ??

Accepted Answer

We use Homefire oval coal brickettes. The hopper size we have holds 3 bags of coal which the coalman puts in with no trouble. We put a B&Q cheap bucket under the chute to catch the coal. The bucket is a bit too tall so needs tilting to withdraw it from under the chute. Problem is the coal ovals nearly always jam in the hatch and interlock so they don't drop into the bucket. I have to wiggle a broom handle down through the coal to dislodge the blockage. Not too bad but would be if wrists painful. My wife has arthritic wrists and cannot comfortably perform this procedure. Wife can unjam fairly easily by poking around the chute with a stick from below. It is a shame coal jams because the hopper is otherwise v good. Hope this helps. In your case, I would be a bit circumspect about the purchase. Happy to answer with additional detail if you require it. Hope this helps. Kindest, John.

Question 2

does it work with the oval briquettes that you use in a multifuel burner

Accepted Answer

Yes but sometimes the coal gets stuck if you overload the hopper. I have found best to put 2 - 3 bags (25Kg) of oval briquettes in at one time.

Question 3

Is the top and bottom sections only held together with four small plastic bolts and nuts?

Accepted Answer

Yes as the smart bunker is new invention to the market place we over engineered with 9 plastic bolts to start with but found this would was doing more harm after testing, We have now 4 bolts where the load stress is on the smart bunkers. The plastic bolts is used because of rust, also a rubber seal is attached to prevent any water getting in as to the problem with steel bolts. Also there it no tools required when assembling and disassembling the smart bunker. Hope this help, let me know please thanks Niall
