The trumpet will send a shiver down your spine
Well first things first, I'm not writing this because I've just bought the album and love it to bits. Im writing this review because I bought the album over a year ago and love it to bits.I love the way most of these songs are related to things that have happened to the band for example, track 1. How To Explain, written about the crowds at all the gigs the band has played, track 2. Days Like These, written about the fun-filled days they have all experienced and what makes life worth living. Track 4. The Chariot, written as a stand against all the war currently in the world, track 7. The Rhythm, about meeting the most amazing girl ever. I could go on.The Cat Empire's debut album is a show case of all the genres of music they incorporate, a perfect blend of jazz, salsa, reggae, funk and hip-hop with a few others thrown in for good measure. The album itself is well structured, as soon as you may be getting tired of the upbeat feel there is a change. The album has an opening that will blow you away, a slow 3rd track, a bright and exciting middle to the album with 3 of the last 5 tracks giving a more relaxed mood yet still full of energy.I can't think of any weak points to this album, the trumpet will send a shiver down your spine and every track will make you smile at the clever lyrics.

No matter what ..... buy this album
where to start? this cd has whatever it is you like, from jazz to reaggae, from hip hop to latino. from the outset you can feel the uplifting nature of the musical brilliance that is the Cat Empire. Songs to watch out for; firstly The Chariot. This has to be one of my favourite songs of all time! it has an energy about it that is incredible, just listen to the lyircs, the metaphor for peace all too apparent. there is also the Wine Song which has to be descibed as crazy! one of the funnest songs ever to be heared. BUY THIS CD! THATS ALL THERE IS TO IT!

Musical Prozac
Rumour has it that the NHS will soon be prescribing this album instead of anti-depressants. I don't know a single person who has been able to listen to this album without involuntarily grinning like a maniac, and, more often than not, dancing around the room. Enough has been said already about the mix of musical styles - just don't try to give it a genre in itunes. Soundtrack of the summer - thank god for distant Australian cousins!

Can't afford it, but I bought it
One of those rare albums that grow on you so much that you don't want to listen continuously 'cause you're scared you might get bored with it. But it's nearly impossible to do.Every opening bar of every song will have you similing as you know what's coming. Lyrics are about as good as you can get.Buy it, you won't regret it.

Hazy lazy crazy days of summer
The Cat Empire are gods of all things musical. My first ever experience of them was at Teviot Row House student union of Edinburgh University during the Edinburgh festival in the summer of 2002. They played after Late 'n Live every night, and they never ever ever failed to blow me away. They ae a bunch of great guys, very chilled and fun to be with. This album is mucho mucho polished from their live versions, but doesn't lose any of that Cat Empire magic. Funky, Chilled, Energetic, Rockin, Jazzy, Brilliant. These people produce music that it is impossible not to like. Buy it. NOW!!
