The Secret: Jack Reacher, Book 28

Jack Reacher is always unputdownable book and you finish in one sitting. So is this book. Always a fan of Jack Reacher. In this book he has turned smartly the Bhopal India disaster as a theme behind the thriller. Good one.

I have been a fan of Lee Child's Reacher series since the first book, Killing Floor, which was published in 1997. Each year, since 1997, I wait for the next Reacher title to be released at my local book store. Since 2015, however, I have dowloaded the latest Reacher on my Kindle, on the day it is released. The Secret is a great read. I love the short sentences, and the plot hooks, and the pacing. The story is credible and I finished the book in one continuous stretch. I recommend The Secret. Enjoy, people.

Read this book by LEE CHILD. And what a take on 'mystery'. Replace the name MACY CHEMICALS with UNION CARBIDE and BHOPAL TRAGEDY....and you have a new twist to the story of CHEMICAL WARFARE and the USA. Worth reading for all its twists and turns. Well researched and superbly written. Does explain most of the in-consistencies and the coverup of the tragic events of 1984 BHOPAL. Must read, just to understand what a DEMOCRACY can allow you to write about. Its just FICTION than what else is?? Make your call. Read the BOOK and conclude.

This is much below the standard set by Lee Child . The story telling is very loose and the character of Reacher is strangely developed. Except for very hard core fans , an avoidable purchase

Familiar plot lines but can see more of Lee Child style than Andrew in this book. Good pace all through except the end was a bit rushed.

Distantly reminds of Bhopal gas tragedy, otherwise usual Jack Reacher fare

Unputdownable. Compulsive read start to end. Jack is back and how. Super sleuth and action Jack. Well woven story. Gripping but fun. A must read book.

Good entertaing thriller..lee child style..Reacher is magnificient..

The only problem I have with reading the Reacher novels is that I end up devouring them practically in one sitting. The worst part is that I can't seem to help myself. This another intriguing storyline from the minds of the Child brothers. Carefully thought out and well developed. I like the Reacher novels because the authors do not indulge in the easy formulaic approach and practice of the older practitioners of the pulp fiction genre did. This is a good read. Entertaining and good distraction.

Me gustó mucho, loma acabé muy pronto.

A fine book; strategically set in Reacher’s past as an army MP. It demonstrates all his qualities at an age when his moves were fresh with already well honed skills. Taps into a theme previously explored where Reacher joins a multidisciplinary task force. The team is drawn from across the range of security services but is something of a ‘no-win’ assignment, so each participant is ‘damaged’ in some way. Capable certainly, but trading water, career wise. Reacher is put forward as he has just been busted back to captain. Fortunately, like everything else he does, he commits himself 100%. I liked the interplay between the team members and the general consensus of opinion and shared ideas. It seemed realistic and gave a fresh insight into agency cooperation. The problem facing Reacher and the others is a series of professional hits on a group of scientists who were supposedly involved in a government cover up when working together in India over 20 years previously. The set piece confrontations are dramatic scenes where answers are sought, the truth is not forthcoming and each scientist seems prepared to die to keep the secret. The murder/suicides are cleverly orchestrated. It quickly becomes evident there is a definite kill list and the perpetrators are well trained and professional. I liked some of the killers’ moves and dialogue. They would be a real test for Reacher if their paths were to cross. Those in law enforcement sent to keep the scientists safe in a preventative watching brief were inept which built the tension towards a final confrontation with Reacher. However, as with previous books in this series there is more than one secret and those mysteries unravel with a few less predictable plot twists. That is a given in these unconventional thrillers of corruption and conspiracy. Loyal fans familiar with Reacher’s world might anticipate the sleight of hand but the denouncement here is satisfying and pure Reacher.

Maybe not the best but always a pleasure to read a Reacher book.
