But why?
This car adapter does connect up and work fine after it gets going. What drives me absolutely crazy about this one out of all that I’ve tested is it’s default goes to android every single time. So I’m waiting for it to boot and get going I push CarPlay for my IPhone and then android boots up. I finally figured out how to switch it under their menu option but it’s a step I shouldn’t have to take. Being $80 it’s not a cheap one by any means and I’ve tested $40 ones that don’t have this problem. Fix your software! With 10,000 options anymore there’s no room for this error

Android user, works, you need to enable Apple Carplay in your car -- Works w/o Android Update (GM)
At first, I was very frustrated with the device. To help you understand, we are an Android household with an iPad being the only Apple device to be found. So, Apple Carplay was disabled in our Bolt, likely by me when we initially purchased the car. Why do I need that? Android Auto worked fine if I plugged in the USB cord, and it launched quickly. The instructions provided with the AIBox are helpful, but less than instructive. In fact, going to the Amazon page to write the review I realized this is where I should have been in the first place, far more instructions than the tiny piece of paper. The tiny piece of paper went on and on about Carplay (Apple) and very little about Android.[See instructions on Amazon page, don’t bother with the instructions provided]I finally just decided to plug it in.. nothing happened. Discouraged even more.Because the instructions appeared to be focused on Carplay, I dug through settings in my car and found Carplay disabled, enabled it and finally I had a response!Even though I had a response, nothing looked like Android Auto. After messing around a little I clicked the link “SpeedPlay” then Android Auto finally appeared.I needed to follow these steps:1. In settings enable Apple Carplay in my car2. Plug in the device3. Connect my phone to the AIBox via Bluetooth4. After Carplay / AIBox screen starts, click SpeedPlayI can confirm that it works with Android phone in a 2019 Chevrolet Bolt. I do like the wireless functionality though you need to be patient when it is initially getting started. It will take about 20 seconds before I get to the point where I can click on SpeedPlay to launch Android Auto. This is the first wireless Android Auto device I have tried. Looking at other comparable products it looks like they all pretty much follow the same process with Carplay. In comparison, the AIBox is a good value.I have two vehicles, in one Android Auto has always worked (initially tested, review above) and the other (2017 Volt) required an update for Android Auto to work that I never obtained. I tried it in my Volt and it worked! I'm thinking because CarPlay was working right this allowed the AIbox to work. I went from no Android Auto to Wireless Android Auto with one simple device. Nice:-)

Browser
Big reason I wanted this was for the android functions. I wanted to stream content other than YouTube/Netflix. I wanted access to rumble and other websites. It has play store. I tried to find chrome, but chrome was not compatible with this version of Android (11 on this). It suggested Firefox which loaded and works pretty good. Could get the rumble sure to stream and a few others. Could run Google maps but did not figure out how to get the GPS to work for current location. Thought it might grab gps from the car and have Firefox permission to use location, but never figured that out, yet.I never tried to connect a phone to this device. When the device is operating and you move to the car's radio or navigation, the device does not reboot and take over control again. This is good since a different unit I tried would keep taking control and you could not listen to the radio without unplugging it. So with this I could leave it plugged in, however, you will likely need to restart the video or refresh the page to get the box to take over the audio again. For streaming, I was getting some buffering, but then switched to a different Internet source and it streamed great. I tested it on a 2019 equinox and a 2019 Chrysler. On the equinox it showed the video content using the entire screen. On the Chrysler, there was a step top and bottom of car info, the rest was video of web browser. Audio and video seemed to be in sync properly. When switching cars, I think it went thru a double reboot, perhaps to figure out the configuration for the new car, then boot with the proper settings.I knocked down the rating due to being old android 11 which limits access to play store apps in addition due to being limited memory. If they want to claim new, at least go to android 13 and a bit more memory.
