Question 1

Why so ridiculously expensive, almost $800 for brackets and a tarp...Wow

Accepted Answer

Hi There, I'm an owner of TOJA GRID, and I'd like to respond to this comment. We are a Canadian company that makes our brackets in Canada by hand. pre-galvanized steel, laser cut, bent and welded, with outdoor powder coating. We've over engineered these brackets to make it simple and easy for anyone to build a pergola in under an hour with an electric drill a ladder and two friends. I can appreciate that metal brackets should be cheap, but this is a high end quality system that is modular and can grow to any size you'd like... check out the images and feedback on instagram. www.instagram.com/tojagrid - hope this helps understand the cost. Question 2

You don't get the wood, just the metal joinery - why is it so expensive?

Accepted Answer

The product is made in Canada in small batches. It is laser cut, bent and welded, not stamped. If you compare our brackets vs. a decorative bracket system available at Home Depot, the cost per corner is very similar. We've simply taken the cuts out, the worry about "what I'll need to build a pergola", and made it possible to DIY in under 1 hr. Hope this helps!

Question 3

Do the 4x4's sag after a while?

Accepted Answer

depends on the wood, sometimes they can at 12ft lengths. Ours haven't yet and we have 12x12's set up outside our office. Also if they do, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to unscrew it, flip it over and screw it back in. Hope this helps! - TOJAGRID

Question 4

Is the shade sail water resistant? What happens if it rains hard ie does water accumulate on the shade sail and it sags?

Accepted Answer

Hi there, great question! It’s a tightly knitted shade sail. Light rain may hold but as soon as accumulating water starts it will begin to drip through. This is a pergola not a gazebo.
