But that does scant justice to a career that covered more than 700 appearances for 7 league clubs and did not end until he retired, through injury, at the age of 41. Raised on Merseyside, Jimmy began at his beloved Liverpool, becoming a key player in the all-conquering team of the late 1970s alongside stars like Kevin Keegan, John Toshack, Ray Clemence, Phil Thompson, Kenny Dalglish and his two great mates, Tommy Smith and Ray Kennedy. At Anfield, where he was signed by Bill Shankly and guided by Bob Paisley, Jimmy won a boxful of medals: four league titles, three European cups plus a host of other domestic honours which tell the truth about Jimmy Case - that he had much more than a tough tackle and a ferocious shot. The 'behind the scenes' stories from matches I still vividly remember as though they were yesterday, had me wandering down memory lane..I cannot recommend this book highly enough to all Liverpool fans and indeed all football fans in general covering as it does clubs Jimmy played for when he left The Reds.... Review: Well written, interesting and insightful - Thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable read from a Liverpool and for that matter, Southampton, legend. The details of Jimmy's breakthrough into the Liverpool first team, the support he received from Tommy Smith and the first hand accounts of the relative merits of Shanks and Bob Paisley were of particular interest. It always seemed to me that Jimmy Case was slightly shabbily treated by Liverpool but he is a character who holds no grudges and his love of his home town club appears as strong today as it ever was. As a player Jimmy Case was utterly committed and completely without ego or pretence. What you saw was what you got, he was a team player who had completely mastered the basics and a great deal more besides. With that in mind this book too reads exactly as you might expect, he tells it as it was and his opinions on the state of the modern game are worth listening to as well.

A real eye opener & a joy to read.
I've never been a great lover of autobiographies,even those of former Liverpool players,having been a fan for 50yrs...However,this one by a very underrated player,(not by Liverpool fans) from the most successful team of the 70's has been a joy to read,primarily I think,because he pulls no punches...Some of the anecdotes are real eye openers and had me laughing out loud. The 'behind the scenes' stories from matches I still vividly remember as though they were yesterday, had me wandering down memory lane..I cannot recommend this book highly enough to all Liverpool fans and indeed all football fans in general covering as it does clubs Jimmy played for when he left The Reds....

Jimmy Case is a football legend.
Jimmy has stories to tell about his time in the world of football. He has wisdom and opinions that he gives eloquently and with a sense of humour, no malice, but forthright opinions. Idolised by the supporters of the football clubs that he graced not just one club but them all. An example of longevity in a hard physical sporting environment. What enabled Jimmy to play for so long? The answer is he's a good un. You don't need to be a supporter of Liverpool Brighton Southampton or Bournemouth to appreciate what Jimmy contributed to the game.

Easy read. No major insights or starling discoveries
Easy read. No major insights or starling discoveries. So yeah, if you want a potted history of the "now faded, never to return" Liverpool Glory years it gives a bit. Also a potted history of Case's career - have boots, will travel. Sum it up by saying within a week of finishing the book I'd forgotten what he / his ghost writer had written.

highly recommend it to any football supporters
As a reds supporter this was an ideal present I received.Jimmy tells it the same way he played his football.straight and truthfully.started to read it and couldn't put it down.finished the whole book in 2 days.highly recommend it to any football supporters. Excellent read.

Hard Case_the autobiography of Jimmy Case
Well worth reading, draws you in from the off. You don't feel it's just another footballer telling you about their career with lots of statistics, you actually feel part of it. If you like football and reading then this one is a must, you won't be disappointed

Excellent read, thouroughly enjoyed the book. Well put together and comes across as honestly as when he played the game.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED/HIGHLY ENJOYABLE.
One of the most underrated footballers of his era, Jimmy was a key component to Liverpool's championship teams of the 1970's . This book is highly entertaining, allowing the reader an inside/honest look at the extended career and life of a true Scouse footballing icon. There's never a dull moment getting caught up with the events of Jimmy's life... Even to this day.

Liverpool's favourite son
I have read many a biography from many personalities and this is up there with the best of them. I am a Liverpool fan, I used to have a season ticket when Jimmy played. I also had a Liverpool away shirt which I used to wear to play football at the local park, the number, I chose on the back was 8.

For all fans of the smaller club Liverpool this is a great read. Southampton fans will love it. Worth a buy and a read.
