Works fine.
After slight modification that prevents the phone holder from folding when the car accelerates or stops fast, this has become an excellent holder for my phone.

Strong spring clamp but limited locations for use
This car phone holder is as described in the product description. The clamp spring is very strong. Once clamped into place it holds quite well. The maximum spring clamp opening (thickness of area it will clamp to) is 1-1/2". I found that once in place it held well, but available mounting locations were difficult to find in my vehicles. Available workable locations were usually not ideal. The visor and rear view mirror locations were the most consistent in our vehicles. Once clipped to the vehicle, phone positioning was accomplished via two friction-based pivots. One pivot can be tightened as needed to prevent unwanted phone movement during use. The other pivot cannot be tightened and will loosen with use. Similar devises have one other pivot point than this one, making them more adjustable than this one. The actual phone mounting clips hold the phone very well. I found it held a Moto g 5 G including a protective case just fine. The phone could be clipped in without interfering with any control buttons. The form-factor for this phone mount is pretty small and light-weight. We got it mainly for travel to hold a phone for GPS use in rental cars where other dash mount type holders cannot be used. This holder is capable of doing the job, at least for awhile, as long as we can find a suitable mounting location in any given car.

A good idea, but poorly designed and cheap.
The cheap price point is a reflection of the cheap construction of this phone holder. The stamped plastic probably brings the cost down but beyond that, the design is also poorly executed. For one, the arms that would hold the phone in place are not wide enough to hold/accommodate a phone with even a minimal protective case (the pictured phone has no case). Also, the releasing bars are not long enough to operate the opening mechanism comfortably, as once the telephone is in place it hides the bars. What has been well designed and better built is the spring clip that affixes the phone holder to the dash. The spring and rubber-padded jaws will hold the unit securely while preventing damage to the dash. The upper portion is also curved, perfect for many modern cars with curved dashes. If this phone holder was made of better materials and hardware, ABS plastic, and better quality screws, with small improvements to the design, the manufacturer could charge twice as much and they would sell well. The ability to rotate the phone, drop it to a horizontal position (out of the way), and raise it when needed, while having it securely mounted at a 'heads up display' like level makes it ideal for driving, but again, the execution leaves a lot to be desired.I will not be using this unit as my phone holder.

Not the perfect fit for my car
My previous cell phone holder that attached to my rearview mirror broke. I needed something new but didn't want any thing to adhere to my car or go into the vents. I went ahead and tried this option. I absolutely love the concept of this holder, but unfortunately it doesn't work very well. I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander which has lots of curves and not a lot of lips to attach this to. I have a couple of options, like sunvisor, back seat mirror, and dashboard behind the steering wheel. I have found these three places to clip it to but they are kindof in the way of my field of vision. I will have to play with it some more.In regards to the product itself, the clamp is extremely strong, which is impressive. I have an S23 which is a large phone and my phone just barely fits. The resting mount does hold my phone firmly without slipping.
