Awesome
My child LOVED it. The tooth broke while trying to get it out but she still had an amazing experience.

Fragile, but fun
My son enjoyed doing this for his 5th birthday. The tooth broke though which was a little disappointing but he still had fun.

Fun idea but not made for young kids.
I got this for my 5 year old. He loved it but the tooth broke while he was extracting it from the dirt. He was pretty bummed that it broke right away.

Cheap! Not worth $10
Thought this would be so much fun for my daughter she has been obsessed with the digging sets and recently dinosaurs. So “Santa” brought it to her. She worked on it the day after Christmas and it did not take long to find and get the tooth! Ok awesome. The problem I have with the this product is the material of the tooth. It’s almost the same as the brick your digging in so it was broken before she even dug it out. Then we got it out and it broke when she was washing it off in the sink. Not worth $10 or the fact that this was the ONE thing she asked Santa for and she was so excited about and it breaks in the first 2 minutes she’s got it. Heart breaking for a mother!

T. Rex Tooth Excavation
I purchased this item for my 10 year-old son to do as a summer project. He loved it and has proudly displayed the replica tooth that he excavated. I have seen a number of reviews where people mention purchasing this for younger children (like around 5 years of age). I have no experience on using a kit like this with a child that young, but definitely felt like my son, being older, was able to take much more care and patience while working to get the "fossil" out of the "rock." Using a fair bit of water was key to softening the rock enough to use the tools without damaging the specimen. This does take some time and fine motor skills.Even after the tooth was freed, the specimen still needed to be scrubbed and we needed to use the "dental" type tool to scrape the reddish layer off of the top to reveal the ivory-colored tooth beneath. This seemed to take even more patience and skill than my son had, so I helped him finish it off. Again, lots of water seemed to be key here. The tools have a good feel (heftier, not flimsy plastic) and are sturdy enough for the task of excavating the fossil. Our T Rex tooth replica is a nice display piece for a child and I thought this kit was great for the price. We liked that the tooth seemed more like a "real" find than excavating a plastic dinosaur, like some of the kits on the market are.

My 6 year old son loved it!
My 6 year old son loved this item! He was so excited and even digged by himself without any help. The tooth looks very realist he had a great time!

Disappointed with the material of the tooth! It broke!!
My grandson was so disappointed that the tooth broke while he was chiseling. The material of the tooth is the same as the plaster and weakened significantly when sponged with water per the instructions. When we washed it off per instructions it broke again. Such a cool idea but not pleased with the quality.

Good.
This was fun. It entertained my 7 year old for about an hour or so.
