Outpost of Dreams introduces a new duo. Norma Winstone, as always quietly innovative as jazz singer and lyricist, brings her vocal subtlety and poetic sensibility to new pieces by pianist Kit Downes, and to compositions by Carla Bley, Ralph Towner, and John Taylor. The programme is completed with fresh perspectives on two traditional tunes, "Black Is The Colour" and "Rowing Home." Throughout Downes offers elegantly phrased accompaniment and adventurous interjections. Outpost of Dreams was recorded in Udine in April 2023. Kit Downes composed the music on 4 pieces with remaining credits going to John Taylor, Carla Bley, Ralph Towner, Aidan O'Rourke plus two traditional pieces - 'Black Is The Colour' and 'Rowing Home'. This album is not really something I would listen to that often but there is a certain charm listening to Norma's voice although I do have difficulty hearing all the lyrics, not that it really matters because the words printed in the enclosed 16 page booklet.
