Unbelievable Quality for Price
My home theater uses a now $600 soundbar with separate powered subwoofer from JBL, and this Vizio performs with higher quality in some aspects and simply expectedly less powerful in others. It is definitely AMAZING using it in my guest room and renders a similarly cinematic theater experience beyond expectations. While the onbard TV speakers are adequate, the tweeter and subwoofer punch from this unit are truly incredible and seem like magic to someone like me born four decades ago. Music is lively with instruments and voices clearly distinct, movies boom with bass swells from orchestra strikes or explosive action, and video games are quite engaging. The app is a little bit of a pain to setup, but once is enough and then easy to access; the numerous settings available are quite appreciated and make perfecting the installation easy. I especially like the height adjustment and the “clear dialog” mid-range adjustability, and that separate inputs remember separate settings. The review bot for my review wants me to talk about cord length for some reason, but that’s not really germane and kind of asinine.

Pleasantly surprised
I honestly was worried that I’d spend $200 and not like the sound quality. I have sophisticated ears and can be picky about speakers. But in this price range, I don’t doubt these are the best. Everything is crystal clear, the soundbar really does sound like 3 different speakers (left, right and center). I’ve experienced zero distortion (and the first thing I did was put on Man of Steel to hear it deal with intense music and a lot of action), and I’m surprised at the difference it immediately made. Once you dial it in to your taste, it’s exactly like being at the movies. And no more dialog being super quiet while music and action are super loud. It’s easy to setup, comes with everything you need right in the box. I have little side tables on each side of my couch, so the satellite speakers sit in line with the back of the sofa, the subwoofer is on the bottom shelf of the left side table. My apartment living room isn’t big, the TV is about 8 feet away with the soundbar underneath. Once I turned it all on and put the app on my phone it immediately connected to the soundbar via Bluetooth, and this is how you change settings and adjust EQ and balance. A lot of people complain about this, but I like it. I like being able to have more than a button on a remote, I like the visual representation of what I’m adjusting. Once you’re happy with the balance and EQ, your TV remote should adjust volume (at least mine does, connected via HDMI ARC). So you won’t have to use the app every time. The speakers have weight to them, even the small satellite speakers. They don’t feel cheap, even though they’re made of hard plastic with fabric over the fronts. The power cables could be a little longer (they’re standard size, 3’ or 4’), but the speaker cables from the woofer to the satellites are very long. It’s cool they included little Velcro cable ties, so you only need to unravel what you need and it stays organized. Literally my only complaint is having to create a Vizio account in the app to control this system. Love the app, hate junk emails.

Best value and sound in soundbars. Vizio is however very model specific.
I love this Soundbar’s sound, so much so that I replaced or acquired the same model for 4 other smart TV’s. For $159 for 5.1.2 it shreds a $2500 Sony 3.1. Works great with Sony, Samsung, and TCL, however with Pioneer, the TV often and unpredictably loses the sound bar and switches itself to internal TV speakers. It’s rarely used in the basement and mostly it’s the kids who don’t even notice the sound difference, so I haven’t had the inclination to debug it. The subwoofer makes the windows shake. The super long cables for the rear speakers plug into the subwoofer and are literally magnets for the robot vac’s that prowl the house. I swear they are programmed to always engage any wire or cable in sight. I find them doggedly trying to get around whatever obstacle I’ve put in place to stop them attacking the wires. Packaging was well constructed with thick cardboard and ensured a dent and ding free delivery. Setup was intuitive and relatively painless. I am still wondering what the HDMI Out does on a soundbar? I connected it to one of the only 3 HDMI In’s ports on the TV, but when I select it, nothing happens. No Signal. At the very least they should have a banner landing page and a GUI interface to the soundbar’s controls. When we got a new TV, I mistakenly thought I had found the best brand and Holy Grail of Soundbars, and bought a pricier Vizio with 225W that came with NO HDMI Out port and NO remote, only a QR Code link to download the remote app. It’s got nowhere near as crisp trebles or smooth base that this model features. If Vizio had a “Suggestions” box, I would recommend that they add a cheap but useful webpage interface to configure the devices. Functionality similar to routerlogin.net, if you’ve ever configured a Verizon home WiFi network away from it’s default settings.

Great value for the money.
I originally got the ultra-cheap (short) 2.0 version of this bar for small TV in our summer house and I was impressed with the quality. So I finally decided to replace my $600 Yamaha soundbar at home. I am super impressed with the quality and functionality of this bar. Volume normalization (DRC I suppose) and dialog enhancement is the best I've ever seen, and for the price this seems ridiculous. It works flawlessly via HDMI eARC with my LG TV and Fire Cube. The only negative I found is that it doesn't include a remote but it works flawlessly with both TV and Cube remotes so I don't think an issue. Additionally it's a nice touch that settings are adjustable via the bluetooth via the App - it'd be a hassle to change them otherwise.

How's your patience with connecting to apps? How about every time you want use the speaker?
I'll start with just good general advice: if the key features of a product can only be accessed via an app, do not buy it. If and when you can hook up to the app you can get pretty good sound. But you'll have to remember your magic trick for connecting to the app, because you'll need to do that each time you watch TV. My trick is: Close the app completely. Shut it down, no background processes. Forget the device in my phone's Bluetooth (BT) Turn BT off to clear the cache While my BT is off, turn off the speaker by holding the "-" and "á›’" for 5 seconds. Wait for it to cycle back on. Press and hold the "á›’" on the speaker for 5 seconds until a blue like starts up. Turn BT back on for my phone Go back into the Vizio app and hope to god it worked. Why the fuss each time? Because if you're TV has any brains at all (aka, has an ARC/eARC HDMI port, most smart TVs will nowadays) it'll just reset any of the speaker settings you worked hard on earlier. So that narrow, tinny sound that comes default out of the box will continue to great you each time you use this speaker. What if your TV doesn't have ARC/eARC? Well, the speaker will still get reset because it lost its connection to the app. Does that seem like a paradox? Yes it sure does. If that doesn't convince you, I'll leave you with the most infuriating characteristic a sound system can have: an unreliable Mute function. You can mute the sound in one app, like YouTube, but if you decide to go to YouTubeTV your sound unmutes automatically. It's almost as if the mute will only work if there is a constant input from an app, and as soon as you close or switch apps, that flicker of input off/on tells the speaker to come back on. If you find Vizio systems with a controller, check them out, I love my old system. I can't and won't buy Vizio again unless remotes make a return. I reiterate my general advice, don't trust when key features can't be accessed on the product itself.

One of the Best Budget Sound Bars *Ever* !!
Given it's remarkably low price point, this Vizio astounds with it's top notch room filling immersive sound and Atmos performance. Is it on the level of Sonos or Bose or other high end models? Of course not, it's a Vizio that costs less than a nice night out. But, and I say this as an insufferable, pompous audiophile, I was nothing less than gobsmacked after setting this one up.... which is easy, although I recommend using a better quality HDMI cable than the one that comes in the box, by the level of quality sound. The bar itself along with the surround speakers and the Sub are well built, heavy and solid as bricks.. I could ramble for days about the almost perfect existence of this product (if only the surround speakers were truly wireless... they're not, they plug into the wireless subwoofer, which means dealing with wires and hiding them and trying not to have guests trip over them sending them flying out the nearest window, rolling into the pool and ending up sharing a rather vigorous weekend with the pool boy......🤣 But I digress. Just buy the darned thing.

The most Bang for the Buck!
I've paid more money and more equipment over 30 years that never performed nearly as well as this! You have all the right adjustments that you can make for your specific tastes and the remote is on your phone. I leave it on all the time and it automatically picks up the correct type of sound and goes to the right speaker. You can feel the base and create your own little bubble. My wife was not all that excited about it until she heard the difference for awhile. This is one of those times I've received more than I paid out for the system. The set up was flawless. I had purchased another system which was more expensive but I sent it back within 24 hours because I couldn't get it to set up with blue tooth and there was no Customer Service. Well spent money!!

Very disappointing
I'm rewriting my review... I think I was in too much of a hurry the first time and was overly generous. I appreciate good audio. Never in my life have I watched a movie or listened to music using phone speakers. But I'm not audiophile-fussy... it just has to be good. (Ya know, old schooler here who built up many component systems over my lifetime.) It took me a while to conclude that a lot of soundbars were "good enough" for me... some provide an excellent way to get quality audio for a couple-hundred bucks. I had a 2.1 LG that was under 200 that I was very pleased with for example. This one doesn't cut it, though. Lots of high-end features (ATMOS) at a very reasonable price, but very "thin", low-drynamic-range sound with very little bass. If I hadn't waited 4 months to use it I'd be returning it. (I used it once, wrote the initial review, and then stumbled on a used Bose system so this went back in the box until I decided to set-up an outdoor movie projection set-up.) I don't want to bash Vizio - they make some great quality stuff. I know I've heard Vizio soundbars that impressed me, but I happen to have two Video soundbars in my office right now... this one, which is too "thin" and tinny and one of Vizio's original soundbars (the first one I ever bought) and it's the opposite - way too base-y (but not in a good way) and muddy. Both of them are, frankly, terrible. I would consider Vizio again, but definitely not one of the budget ones if I couldn't hear it first. COMPATIBILITY: A couple of reviewers gave bad reviews and complained that this only works on VIZIO TVs. ***THEY ARE WRONG*** They either had TVs that were too old to have an ARC (Audio Return Channel) HDMI port, or they just didn't know what they were doing. If your TV has an ARC or eARC HDMI port, use it for this. It will work... just think of it as an audio-out cable... you can still watch incoming video on the other HDMI ports, but the audio will be routed out the ARC port to the soundbar. This soundbar does not come with a remote, but that's okay. Changing the volume on your TV remote will change the volume on the soundbar. If you connect via bluetooth (like from your phone) the volume control on your phone will control the speaker (and there's always physical Vol +/- buttons as well.) I'm impressed that this one support Dolby Atmos, but honestly, I don't see how a 2-channel speaker can possible do that level of audio simulation... if you really care about the benefits of Atmos, you're probably going to buy a full-fledged home theater set-up. I've also had an LG soundbar that I liked better, but it was double the price and had an external sub-woofer (it also stopped working on our cross-country move, so there's that.) It all comes down to what you want and how fussy you are. If cost is your deciding factor and you want to keep it under a hundred dollars, I think you'll be impressed with this one.

App needed to use soundbar
BUYER BEWARE! While the item itself is working fine and looks good, it doesn’t come with a remote; volume up and down worked with the tv remote but that’s it; if you need to access any other functions, you must use an app called Vizio Mobile however said app DOES NOT work in Canada. I thought of giving my review one star, but I’m sure the soundbar could have been a great addition to our tv viewing experience. IMO, Amazon.ca should remove it from the site, or at least inform Canadian buyers of this issue.

Sounds great
Absolutely great sounding system. What a difference between just having a soundbar and having a 5.1 system. Super easy to set up (part of the reason I purchased this unit) with very few cables to run. The sub-woofer came unpaired and literally took seconds to pair up with the central soundbar. Highly recommend.
