What a life! what a journey! What a book! Really enjoyed learning about the life of Chris Edwards and his family and his 50 year journey of building his business. Well worth the time to read if your interested in the subject, brilliant!

I stumbled upon this book whilst having a general browse looking for something to read & having seen Chris Edwards in the BBC programme Pound Shop Wars I decided to order a copy on my Kindle.The book goes into great detail about his childhood, his relationship with his family & how both of those things have impacted his businesses.I felt the book could have further gone into the business aspect of his life e.g How he was able to scale Poundworld so quickly etc.On the whole the book is an enjoyable read.

Having grown up in Wakey and remembering buying my first digital watch in about 1980 (stainless steel, stop watch and light no less) from Wakefield Bargain Centre where I am sure it was Chris who served me (but maybe his brother) I was very much looking forward to this. Moreso having seen him on the two different fly on the wall documentaries because I like his style.Real shame though about Poundworld, did Chris see the writing on the wall or was it because he wasn't running it anymore?Anyway, book good in most part. I didn't realise he owned the notorious Kikos in Ponte, or the Birdcage as well as other clubs.As others say the bit where it drags are the family accounts, which often repeat what Chris has said, and also tell us time and again what a great guy and grafter he is. These sections were in the main not required, although some of his son's accounts are interesting.Otherwise I enjoyed this in the main.So worth a read but not as good as the book from Malcolm Walker of Iceland- another local lad.

Inspiration in a book. As a new starter this book has provided a wealth of knowledge and stoked my fire. Thank you.

The book was ok but I was disappointed that there was only a couple of mentions about “in the pink”. I used to work there & hoped there would be more about it.

##### very Good read #####Very interesting read of how it all started not bad for selling stuff for a pound.

Pretty average really, the author describes some very interesting bits about how he started as a market trader with the guts and effort that takes, to starting the business and forays into pubs and clubs. The real let down is the bulk of the book is an advert to how brilliant his kids are. His son accompanies him to China at 15 and even at that age knows all the questions to ask, I won't bore you with how good the daughters are and they're not even the business! Embarrassing nepotism at its best.
