So much better than my old laser! This is my fourth laser, and my second 20w diode laser. Wow. From the packaging to the capabilities, I'm really happy. I bought their air purifier, too. Also worth it. Quality/versatility/Ease of use are all good. Very large bed - a good size. Well-packaged. Great price. A self-contained laser is night-and-day easier to use than a crummy grow box that I had been using as an 'enclosure'. There's even a very good light in the front of the S1. Then, there's the software. It's a bit quirky, but after a video or two I am good to go. Not very intuitive at first, but it is in fact easy to use. The ability to engrave bitmaps is one of the things that sold me on this laser. It's fast - sturdiness has its benefits, and speed is one of them. The side-to-side engraving that took forever on my old laser is noticeably faster on this one. XTOOL made something that hit a lot of good marks - the auto-height tool is far superior to the "wrench and spacer" debacle that I was used to doing. The enclosure is BIG and sturdy. The automatic features of the air assist (part of my bundle) is a nice touch. The optional AR2 air purifier is automatic, too. The setup is easy. Their system for setting up the location of laserable items is good, too. They automated what they could automate, and I still have access to manual settings if I want. The emergency shutdown switch is a pro move. The hoses for the air purifier are plenty long enough. Now for the criticism (tee hee hee ...): - The magnetic hold down pegs are not adjustable, and do not hold all that well. Like any other clamp of that type, they'll get in the way if you put them on top. - The software, while easy to use and setup, is a bit quirky at first. I do not know what to say. There is so much to like about this laser that I just touched on my favorites. It looks so professional on my workbench!

With a spot size of roughly 0.08 × 0.06 mm, the precision is high, letting you achieve fine features and sharp edges. Good Cutting Capability It handles woods like plywood or basswood quite well, especially up to moderate thicknesses. Even materials like MDF or plywood around ~10 mm are manageable. The machine cuts smoothly and, in many tests, delivers clean results with minimal scorching. Safety & Enclosure This is huge. For indoor use, being able to have a fully enclosed system with flame detection and automatic shut‑offs if something goes wrong is a massive plus. It reduces the barrier for beginners and hobbyists who may be nervous about laser safety. Work Area & Speed The workspace (~498 × 319 mm) is generous for a desktop/bench‑top laser. This gives you enough room to do reasonably large pieces without always resizing or forcing your layout. The top speeds (600 mm/s) ensure engraving is not painfully slow. User‑Friendliness & Software The xTool Creative Space (XCS) platform is well‑designed, accessible, and powerful enough for most uses out of the box. If you want more control, LightBurn compatibility is a big benefit. Features like autofocus, dynamic focus (helpful for uneven surfaces), and twin‑point positioning make setup much less tedious. User‑Friendliness & Software The xTool Creative Space (XCS) platform is well‑designed, accessible, and powerful enough for most uses out of the box. If you want more control, LightBurn compatibility is a big benefit. Features like autofocus, dynamic focus (helpful for uneven surfaces), and twin‑point positioning make setup much less tedious. Overall this is amazing and even the smell is so minimal with the outside vent! You cannot go wrong!

I had one of the original xtools (d1 5w) and although it still works after much use, I was looking for an upgrade in speed - and this blew me away! A cut that would normally take 1.5 hours after 3-4 passes now did it in 15 minutes in one swift pass. I only wish I invested in one of these sooner. My projects would take 4 hours of cutting in the past, and they are now done in 30 minutes with crisp edges, and super accurate layout pinpointing. I cut 3 mm basswood, so didn't go for the 40w - the 20w is more than enough power. Easy setup too, from opening the box to pulling my first completed sheet off the printer was about an hour. Highly recommend!
