I've never bought personal protection before (stop sniggering, I mean an alarm, not a prophylactic !). So I wasn't sure what to look for. I wanted one that I could recharge, so I didn't have to go hunting around for special CS145 (or whatever the other ones use) batteries, or for it to use AAA batteries that go flat too quickly. I also wanted one that I could attach to a rucksack, and would work if I yanked it off, but wasn't too easy to accidentally trigger. This one fits the bill perfectly. The little pull-tag is attached to the chain, and clicks into the main body really snugly. It takes a little force to pull them apart, but they go together again easily. The shape makes it easy to find the fit and re-connect. But the best part is that it doesn't come off /too/ easily. When you pull it apart, the thing makes an awful screeching alarm sound, and there's a little twinkly LED that flashes on and off. The noise of the thing is immense at close range, and left my ears ringing at arms length. If someone was attacking me, and I clapped this onto their ears, they'd be in serious (and I do mean SERIOUS) pain. The flashy LED might be nice for the night-time, but it all but useless in the day. In a darkened alley it would make it easier for people to spot where you are and come to your aid, though, so that's how I assumed you'd use it. I was surprised when it said it would "disorient" an attacker. mmmm.. maybe if you shoved it right in front of their eyes in a darkened alley, it'd blind them enough for you to insert your foot into their privates and give it toes... All in all, it's a great little device. Works well, makes a lot of noise, and charges quickly.

Tested it at home and also accidentally when pulling my keys out of my pocket and the alarm is seriously loud. It activates instantly when you pull the pin and definitely grabs attention. The sound is strong enough that it would surely scare someone off if needed. Thankfully I have not had to test it in a real situation, but it gives a lot of reassurance when carrying it on your keys. Simple to use, good quality and a really handy little safety gadget. Very pleased with it.

Je n'étais pas prête à un tel niveau de décibels. Il déclenche immédiatement un taux de cortisol et d'adrénaline ... j'ai mis une bonne heure à m'en remettre. Il est clairement dissuasif pour une agression car même l'agresseur aura le cerveau en pls. Il est préventif en cas de chute à domicile, de soucis un montagne lors d'une randonnée ... avec un tel bruit, cela me semble impossible que l'entourage ne soit pas alerté ... Je trouve intéressant le fait qu'il n'ait pas un simple bouton qu'on pourrait activer accidentellement. Pour l'activer, il faut tirer du capuchon tout en haut de manière volontaire. Pour le désactiver, il faut faire la manœuvre inverse. Il est petit, esthétique et fait "petit gadget itech". Une merveille. J'en rachète un dans la foulée pour ma mère.

Purchased as a gift. I was very surprised with how loud this is and more so with the battery life. Must have for anyone walking alone at night, especially in a busy city
