Buy these! If your pet gets any type of knots, mats or just really long hair that’s hard for them to clean. These are soundless, they don’t look threatening to the animals, they’re very sharp and cut through tough fur mats effortlessly! I’ve tried many different tools to remove heavy mats and knots from one of my pets and this is the cheapest, and by far, best solution. I’ve given them to friends and they also cannot believe how well these work. No stress on the pet and suddenly they feel better, have a better attitude and are more enjoyable to be around.

This product was originally and is still used as a letter opener. I had a cat with hair knots maybe 30 years ago ++ years ago, and used my “letter opener” to take the knot out, a brilliant idea back in the day. If you know how to use this product it works great. The bigger the knot, you use “baby steps” ie do NOT expect this product to remove a large knot of hair without using small steps to remove or loosen smaller pieces first, and use a comb or small brush to help break up and remove the knot bit by bit until it is completely removed. DON’T dig product deep into any knot on an animals coat. You could potentially cut the animal. If you don’t like how it does for a knot removal, use it as it’s meant to be used originally, a letter opener.

This product seriously injured my cat, slicing him wide open and requiring stitches. It was a terrifying experience. Even my veterinarian said he would never use this product. Please think twice before purchasing it—your pet’s safety isn’t worth the risk.

Great value! We use these at the spay/neuter clinic I work at to quickly tackle matted dogs and cats. They work well for mild-moderate matting and are a good starting point for severe matting. The build is good, but I wish the point was a little less blunt so it's easier to punch through some more gnarly matting. I have not cut an animal yet so I'm happy with the safety. The blade seems sharp, I haven't had to swap the first one out yet! However, I have cut myself so +1 for sharpness and -1 for comfort. It's a great grooming tool to have in our kit and saves our time and clipper blades!

I have been ill for a while, and hadn't been brushing my super-long-haired boy's coat. I didn't realize just how quickly it would mat up! He wound up with several large mats on his back by his tail. He is an extremely sensitive cat, and me teasing these knots out with a comb wasn't going to happen. If I even accidentally tugged at his fur a little too hard he pitched a fit and took himself off to some corner to get over his fury. So I had to work in short sessions, tackling a little at a time over the course of a few days. In between copious amounts of Zoom Groom brushing on his face--which he would tell you is the only real way to be brushed--, I would slip one of these cutters down and work on a mat. These cutters were easy to hold, sharp enough to work very quickly, and safe enough that I knew even if Mr. Sensitive flew off in a rage, neither of us would get hurt. I know they're not necessarily meant to be used this way, but they also worked to cut out a couple smaller mats completely once he and I had conferred and made the decision that he wasn't going to tolerate another thirty seconds. I just turned the cutter perpendicular to the hair direction instead of parallel and slid the blade across close to the skin, and in a flash the pesky mats were gone. Now that I'm doing a little better and his beautiful coat is somewhat back under control, I've found a couple knots starting to form because he's still not getting brushed as often as he normally would be. It's been easy to use one of these the correct way and cut apart the knot while saving most of the hair. I like that there are five, so if one gets dull it's no big deal to grab a new one. And for the price, you can't beat that. These do what they're supposed to do, and I'm so glad they do! My gorgeous boy is back to gorgeous and can spend his time admiring himself in the mirror once again, while I know that I have insurance against any knots that dare to show up.

I have to learn to carefully read things. I only needed one and received 5 pieces which actually are letter openers. It does not help with the cat knots; you can cut your animal with these. Very Disappointed.

This was so easy to use on my “don’t touch me” cat. The only time I get cuddles in is in our bed, at night. Cat snuggles in and while he was snuggled, I was able to safely slice away his mats. You have to be careful not to get cat’s skin because it is sharp enough that it could slice them. Best tool because it’s small, makes zero noise and they feel like they’re just being pet. Oakley purred through the entire process. (Probably due to not knowing what I was doing) LoL

These are really just envelope openers but they work. The blade is sharp enough. Was able to get the mats out from behind my dog’s ears with no issues. It’s small and doesn’t freak pets out so it’s easy to use. I’m glad it came with extras!
