everybody likes to have a garden, but what do you do when you only have a small amount of space available? Well, thanks to Alan Tichtmarsh you now know exactly what to do. This book tells you everything you need to know about what to plant/grow, when and how to do it with plenty of illustrations and easy to follow instructions. it also contains suggestions for various types/themes of gardens and it has instructions on how to build a variety of wooden structures to augment your garden. They too are easy to follow and you do not need to be a professional builder/carpenter to build them. For the beginner its a great book and for the seasoned gardener its an excellent reference book which might also provide new ideas for designs and projects. Its great value for money.

I bought this book for my son and daughter in law who have a very bland and rather sloping small garden, and who were at a loss as to what to do with it. They were thrilled with the book, and intend to read it thoroughly this winter and make plans to attack their garden in the Spring. There was a section on how to build steps, which they hope to follow. I read it myself first, and got some very good ideas for my own garden. It is friendly and well thought out, with lots of discriptive and inspiring photographs. Altogether a good buy for a very small price.

I was looking for some ideas on small garden design, this book gives you the science behind garden design, some actual garden designs and planting ideas etc. The layout of the book is similar to other books in his series. Quite helpful but it lacks more examples of actual garden designs.

Exactly what I was looking for to plan my garden layout and decide what plants to buy.

I thought it lacked names of all the flowers and plants shown. It would have been nice to make a note of some to buy. Was a little disappointed with the book actually.

I got both books 'the weekend gardener & this one' & love them both, this book especially as it gave me so many ideas for my garden, I bought this book as it showed you how to make steps using railway sleepers, but then after reading the book discovered how to terrace using raised beds & steps together, my garden is on a steep slope & is now in the process of being transformed from an overgrown mess that was unmanagable into a fabulous space where i can grow vegetables & colouful plants. A really good book with lovely pictures & great ideas

I have bought several books from Titchmarsh after having seen some gardening programs of his. I love the easy style, very pragmatic yet full of lovely ideas, pictures, combinations of plants and suggestions. I like the fact that in these books there are different levels of "hand on" like some DIY inserts. It is a short, compact book that can be useful for a start. He pinpoints every aspect, gives a number of specific plant suggestions, and examples of different garden styles/maps drawn out on the same allotment of space.

Livre très intéressant, en anglais certes, mais pleins de croquis et photos qui ne nécessitent nullement d'être bilingue. Aide à la réflexion pour trouver le jardin qui vous correspond (minimaliste, formalisé, champêtre, jungle, pour les enfants, avec un coin potager, pour recevoir...) Plan d'aménagement, photos, réflexion sur l'exposition de votre terrain et les impacts de la course du soleil... Pour l'instant, c'est de loin le meilleur ouvrage sur les petits jardins de ville que j'ai pu consulter, en plus le prix est canon.

This appears to be part of a series of mini books from a UK garden series starring Alan Titchmarsh. I found it informative and the photos very helpful. A very nice book for quick inspiration with good tips and insights.
