Bakuman?, Vol. 8 (Volume 8): Panty Shot and Savior

Ugh... Miyoshi...
Bakuman volume 8 contains chapters 62 to 70.It is rated T for teen due to "suggestive themes".Bakuman is about 2 boys, Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, who dream of becoming professional manga creators. Mashiro is in charge of the art and Takagi writes the story. Together the duo call themselves Muto Ashirogi. Mashiro promised his girlfriend, Miho Azuki, that when both his dream and her dream of becoming a voice actress come true, they will get married.Volume 8 begins with Takagi meeting Iwase! She announces that she too will become a mangaka! She's obsessed with competing with Takagi and will do anything to beat him. Miyoshi finds out that he met Iwase and Aoki and becomes suspicious. Takagi and Mashiro continue having problems with their editor. Plus, Nakai falls in love again and Eiji, Fukuda and Hiramaru are as awesome as always.Miyoshi... I've never liked her and I never will. You will know that if you have read my previous reviews. She is especially annoying in this volume.I found myself skipping the parts with Miyoshi in and just looking forward to the parts with Fukuda and Aoki in. If not for Aoki then I could easily say that all the female characters in this manga are just annoying. This may just be my opinion as a female reader though, males may like that sort of girl. Feel free to leave a comment if that's true.I had to subtract a point because of all the drama involving Miyoshi. Fukuda is absolutely amazing in this volume though like he is in every volume. The art is also perfect especially for Aoki, she becomes cuter every time she appears!Overall, even with it's problems, it's a good volume. If you haven't read any of the previous Bakuman volumes, I'd recommend getting those before volume 8 (obviously).

Missing Hattori
In this volume we see how well Muto Ashirogi's gag manga does, both in Akamaru and in the serialisation meeting.Reading this volume made me realise how much I miss Hattori as their editor. Their new editor, Miura, isn't very good at listening to his mangakas and is determined to have Muto Ashirogi produce a gag manga. In this volume, we see Takagi trying to come up with more jokes for their new manga. It kind of feels like they're following a formula developed by someone else, whereas when they were working on one shots such as Money and Intelligence their work seemed to have a more natural flow to it. I enjoyed this series more when Muto Ashirogi were with Hattori and making more story-based manga. There are some concerns about Muto Ashirogi's direction from one or two of the editors, and I am hoping that this leads to a return to their prior form.I would have given this 5* but some of the developments (and the drama that has resulted from these) means it's not as good (for me) as the earlier volumes.
