There's a reason why Lane's has endured and now exists in a second edition with expanded content and more color illustrations -- this book covers the waterfront.Lane surveys porcelain's history and, more importantly, its properties. There is detailed discussion of how it can be manipulated -- separate chapters on form and throwing processes, on glazes, and on surface treatments. And the chapter which lies at the heart of the book for me is entitled "Sources of Inspiration and Means of Expression a comprehensive overview made richer by statements by individual artists.And there are the photos. Stunning photos of stunning objects.Consider me a fan.

A lovely book for a potter's library. A wide variety of different ceramic styles illustrated, great food for inspiration.

This book gives a thorough and knowledgable insight into working with porcelain. The many fabulous photos are inspiring and the artists have been generous in sharing their methods and recipes. I have found this book to be an excellent addition to my resources and know I will keep referring to it throughout many years.

A wonderful review of artists with interesting tidbits sprinkled throughout. This is a book by someone who simply loves porcelain. If you feel the same way you will enjoy reading it. Think of it as window shopping a gallery of artists and what they are doing with porcelain. Not a technical book of how to stuff, nor should it be.

I've recently taken an interest in pottery and porcelain and bought this book mostly on a lark. The author appears to be a decades long student of developments in porcelain production and design, and has published at least three books, including this one, in keeping his reportage up to date. The works included here are in the main roughly dated 2000-2010. The photographs are extensive, the selections broad, the technological hurdles high, the results remarkable. Numerous examples were technological masterpieces and many were of the the highest aesthetics. Mr Lane has pursued an endeavor of affection and come up with a book flooded with technical explanation and inspiration, front to back. I expect to return to it often.

I like that it arrived as indicated. The condition described was very accurate.

livre excellent, clair même pour qui ne parle pas couramment anglais..j'ai beaucoup appris et je le relis souvent, la liste des artistes dont on y parlecomplète celle que l'on trouve dans Bone China and Porcelain de Sasha Wardell, lui aussi étant un livre à avoir absolument quand on travaille la porcelaine
