In case you're like me and weren't sure how this works, it really is just plug in and use. In my case I work at a university and needed this to swipe student IDs - just open a Word or Excel file, plug this in and it easily scans the info contained in the strip - did not need to download any software program or learn anything new - couldn't have been easier. Very inexpensive option with no issues that we have encountered. One thing possibly worth noting: the magnetic reader is only on one side of the scanner (so for example, it DOES need to be facing one specific way). I don't consider this a problem but if it is for you, then you may wish to consider more expensive/sophisticated options.

Had lots of issues with it reading cards, worked for only about a week.

Works with every card I try though it just types out the value it reads from the strip not sure if there are programs to let me do more with it or if it can write blank cards as I have no blank cards but it does read
