Greenworks 80V 21in Self-Propelled Lawn Mower, 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger

Quick review. Arrived in mftr's box ONLY. Shame on Amazon. But luckily, nothing was damaged. I opened the box, assembled it w/o too much effort (all but one thing was just common sense). It looks great, is fairly light weight and pushing it w/o self-propulsion is easy thanks to said light weight AND large wheels. It works great. Battery actually lasted long enough to cut a large backyard with some to spare. Didn't have to charge it but I pushed most of it instead of self-propelled mode. It cuts fine. auto adjusts when the grass gets thicker and you can adj the speed of pulling and there's a turbo button as well. I set it to med speed and pushed it. The only gripe I have is the height setting doesn't go high enough. But other than that, so far so good. Very well made, imo. LOUDNESS: since the company refuses to publish the actual SPL of the thing, I took the liberty to measure it with my dB meter. Loudness measured from handle to motor in stationary mode is A-weighted: 79.0 dB and C-weighted: 85.4 dB (give or take a few decimals). SEE PICS FOR PROOF and wear hearing protection while using this! That's all, folks!

I never expected to write a 5 star review for this mower, but alas here it is! My old Toro gas mower died 2 weeks ago and I ordered this 80v Greenworks model because it appeared to have more power than the (2) 40v. to go up hills, and yes indeed it does! It came overnight, so I was able to finish the mowing from the day before. Setup was a breeze with only a few parts to assemble, it was ready to go in about 20 minutes. The self propel on full power (yes, it's adjustable if you want to go slower or on flat land) worked just as good as my old Toro, you can see the steep backyard in the photo. I am also very pleased with the battery time. For my yard, it takes about 20 minutes to do and it used just 1/4 of the battery. So I used it a second time without charging it and it used another 1/4 battery. For those who mentioned that you have to pause if you want to walk backward with it, you're correct but I think I've figured out that if you simply lift the back wheels a tiny bit, it disengages the self-propel more immediately to go back without any tension. I like that the unit is a pretty heavy steel, I was afraid it would be more flimsy but it's very sturdy. The blade cut perfectly too, a nice even cut after a simple adjustment that raises or lowers all the wheels easily. This is a perfect fit for me, I can only hope it lasts 15 years like my old Toro.

I am surprised and delighted by the power, efficiency, and ease of use. I purchased the Greenworks 80V 21” Self-Propelled Cordless Lawn Mower when my old gas powered mower recently seized up and stopped working. I’ve always been very skeptical about electric mowers having comparable power and ability to cut through thick Saint Augustine grass. To my surprise and after about 8-10 lawn cuts, I’ve been totally convinced and happy with this mower. I have about 1/4 acres of Saint Augustine grass - and the battery lasts for at least 3 mowings and cuts through thick wet grass like butter. Because it’s an electric mower, it’s extremely quiet and very lightweight. The mower is self-propelled, however, it’s so light, that I find myself pushing it with ease around islands and tighter spaces. It’s also super easy to start… no more throwing your shoulder out by pulling string-cords or running out of gas. Overall, I can’t recommend this enough for the power, cutting-ability, agility, and battery life.

There's a bit of a learning curve, lol. Don't wait til you have to turn to practice that. To back up, you have to release self-propel levers, give a slight push forward, then go backward. I don't like that. Battery didn't last as long as advertised, but maybe that's my grass. Battery charges FAST, which is great. Self-propel feature works great, and is adjustable. It's not fast or slow, that's nice. It seems to have some power. I have a 0.66 acre double lot on a corner, so big yard. This is easier on me than the 60V push mower, but my shoulders and biceps are pretty sore after cutting about a third of yard. Not as quiet as my other one, but still far better than gas. It was super easy to put together. I'm a 58 year old female, average physical shape.

My latest "yard guy" quit on me, so I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands! I just received my Greenworks mower a couple of days ago, and I've already been putting her through her paces. I absolutely love her and even gave her a name: Bunny! 😊 I have a large yard, so this mower is definitely getting a real workout. I'm still waiting for my second battery to arrive, but honestly, I haven't minded the downtime between charges. I have mid-foot arthritis in both of my feet, so the charging breaks have actually encouraged me to rest instead of trying to push through all at once. The self-propelled feature has been an absolute game changer. It has made mowing so much easier and far less exhausting. So far, Bunny has been doing an amazing job, and I'm genuinely impressed! I'll continue putting her to the test and will come back later to update my review with my long-term thoughts. Ironically, my former yard guy couldn't seem to keep up with this yard even with a riding mower. Meanwhile, Bunny (my Greenworks mower) and I have been happily knocking it out together. I never expected mowing to become something I actually enjoy! P.S. - 57 year old female here braving the Missouri heat and humidity through all this! Just sayin'! ...Hoping that might encourage others to give this mower a try!

The mower works great except.... buy a second battery. I have a corner lot the original battery runs out after front and side strip. The second battery( bought a cheap battery works good enough for $79) covers the backyard. No matter how I ran it the original battery cannot do the whole lot. Good news the batteries charge extremely fast. Oh don't count on the light gauge to notify you, it just stops. But as a mower it mulches very well, also the bag picks up almost everything and the height is easy to adjust with one lever.

Moving to texas, it's hot as 'heck' here in the summer. I paid others to mow my lawn because I'm fat and lazy, plus I seem to have problems with my gas lawnmower. 45.00 per week and dead spots in my lawn that I swear are being caused by oil, gas or both leaking off these mowers. I did my research and found these and Ego mowers have a lot of power these days, no oil and gas, self-driving and very light. I am only sorry it took so long for me to find this. I'm on half an acre and a single charge works for me. Battery charges within 30 minutes and i've had no issues with its use, my grass is coming back and while I'm still lazy, I'm not as fat. Recommend a second battery just in case and if you find this someplace like CostCo, pay attention to the battery life 4.0Ah should be minimum spec. You can find other batteries compatible with this mower that are even higher Ah values. Higher the Ah, longer the mower will run on that cell.

Great mower, but plan on spending hundreds of dollars on batteries, as I need 2-1/2 batteries to mow a little over a quarter acre of yard. I figured it out: the price for my three batteries, I could have purchased 10 years of gas, so if value and not switching out batteries is what you are looking for, this is probably not the mower for you. On the flip side, if you want a quiet mower with a good cut that you don't have to change oil and air filters, this is a great pick.

As advertised. I have trouble manually pushing a lawn mower so having the “self propel” feature was a must. It has several height options that are easy to adjust. Easy to use. VERY fast on the fastest setting so start on the slowest setting. Powerful and does exactly what I needed it to do, takes half the time to mow the lawn now. Would highly recommend, especially for those who have issues manually pushing a lawn mower. :)

The issue where you cannot immediately pull it backwards after stopping forward movement is 100% an engineering screwup. You have to give it a little shove forward by yourself after it comes to a stop to move it forward a couple inches, in order to unlock the drive wheels. Or release the drive trigger and allow the mower to roll forward quite a ways.......Stupid design ... My 91 year old Mom will have a very hard time adjusting to this, she probably may never quite get there....and that's who I bought it for. Apart from that its OK and the height adjustment is very easy to operate which was great.
