I did no small amount of research before purchasing these headphones. I can afford the Bose A20s but I had reservations about Bose customer service. I had physically tried a LightSPEED Zulu 3 and a Sierra. (Note: the Zulu 3 looks more rugged - more metal than plastic - than the Sierra) However, I knew from a LightSPEED owner they had problems with the Bluetooth. There is a delay that makes the Bluetooth almost unusable. Each party must delay response about 3 seconds to be heard. I don’t know if LightSPEED has fixed this issue. The LightSPEED is very comfortable. I evaluated the noise cancelling charts and the UFQ A28 ANR surpassed the Bose A20 (note I don’t use the ANR). I also looked at the UFQs company service ratings and the serviceability of the A28. Both were excellent. Since purchasing the UFQ I had a chance to compare with the Bose A20. I found no difference in the ANR. I do think the A20 is a very little bit more comfortable (slightly less squeeze pressure) but I’ve spent a lot of continuous hours under the UFQ and am very happy. The UFQ is definitely more rugged then the A20. The UFQ has the 3.5 jack for cellphone cable link that lets you use your mobile and communication together – I don’t think anyone else has this. The UFQ does not have Bluetooth. When I need that I plan on getting a Pilot Blulink. That will still keep my total purchase less than the Zulu or A20. Note I like having individual components so one failure does not take out the whole system. Finally the UFQ boom works very well. I think the A20 is a bit too short – I couldn’t get it right in front of my mouth. And I like the carry bag that comes with the UFQ.

The media could not be loaded. I considered several headsets before I made my purchase. The low cost of the UFQ A28 made it seem like a good choice, but I was a little nervous about an unknown brand with very few reviews. I took a chance and I'm very happy with my purchase.I've had the headset for several months now and I have used them on several flights. I'm still on the original set of AA batteries (which I don't think were included with my purchase - if they were, I just put in some Energizers instead of whatever came with the headset).The Active Noise Reduction (ANR) works surprisingly well for a headset in this price range. My flying club has a Bose Aviation X ANR headset that I used to use routinely, but my A28 works almost just as well, so I don't use the club's headset anymore.It came with a nice bag. It smelled a little funny for the first few days, but it's odorless now.I post a lot of aviation videos to YouTube under the username dan_der_flieger. You can get a good sense of how well the headset works by listening to the audio in several of my most recent videos. I've also added a short video to this review. You can't hear the ANR in the video (that magic happens in the ear cups and I get the audio into my camera through a cable before the ANR does anything with it). But you DO get a feel for how well the microphone works compared to the cheap headset my son is using. The mic is just as important as the ANR, in my opinion.

Like others, I bought this set as it is the cheapest ANR headset, other big name PNR sets are about the same price, and I wanted ANR without spending $700-1000. I am a student pilot and have had 4 flights with these so far in Pipers and Cessnas and they do the job. No problems hearing my instructor or ATC, and they hear me loud and clear. With squelch adjustment sorted and adjusting volume individually on each ear piece, you can fine tune your volume. Only noticeable downside is it seems the earpieces sit low, (I have a medium head) and I can’t really adjust them high enough because the leather for the top pad is too wide. I may just cut the top pad to make it work. They are much lighter than they look. Best $300 new ANR headset you can buy, since it is also the only $300 new ANR headset. I would say these are right in the middle of the road, maybe a little above average considering they are the lowest priced new ANR headsets you can get.

I have been flying for over 50 years and am a commercial pilot. When I started flying, headsets were not common. We used the overhead speaker and a handheld mike. Since the mid 1980's I have used David Clark headsets and my original is still my spare. DC completely rebuilt it for me a few years ago at an attractive price. I currently use the DC One-X ENC. Make no mistake, this is not a replacement in quality for my DC. BUT, it works very well, especially on ANR, the primary reason I purchased it. Both the mike and the speakers are very clear in a noisy single. The ad description was unclear if the A28 could be used left or right, but I was pleased to discover the boom mike does swivel to allow either a left or right handed mike use just like the newer A7. Even after a 3 hour flight they were comfortable and not pinching. The headset bag is a plus. It is not top quality, but gets the job done. This headset does not fold down compact like some others, so the larger bag size is necessary. If you are on a tight budget and want a good ANR headset, especially at this under $300 price point, this is a good option. It is now my go to headset for my right seat passenger over my older DC. At this price point you can afford to outfit the 4 place airplane for the price of 1 Boese. What's not to like? Update: I just discovered that in a high perf single on the tarmac with the windows open, there is a fault that sounds like a loud boom noise in sequence with the prop. It appears to be caused by air compression into the cabin. As soon as the windows were closed, the issue was gone. At first I thought the headset had an issue, but it performed as expected for the remainder of the flight, once the windows were closed.
