I couldn't be happier with the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR. For the price point, the performance is absolutely stellar. The internal zoom is a massive plus; it keeps the lens balanced and prevents the barrel from extending, which is huge when you’re tracking fast-moving subjects like birds or wildlife.The VR is rock solid, allowing for crisp handheld shots even at the 600mm end. Autofocus is snappy and quiet, and the image quality remains sharp across the entire zoom range. Excellent quality, versatile lens
This lens is large, heavy, pricey and completely worth it. I've been on waitlists to buy this lens for months and finally decided to pay a rather hefty premium (~17%) through a reputable Amazon seller just to obtain it. As much as I hate to spend over list price, I'm glad I did. It's simply not as available as I'd like. Curse you, "Supply and Demand"! You win again! [grin]I've been impressed with the clarity of the photos taken with this lens. The internal zoom keeps the lens nicely balanced on a tripod or when using the tripod mount hand-held. I've read comments about images not being as crisp at 600mm as the are at 180-360mm or so compared to a 600mm prime lens. I have to say that I can't think of any telephoto zoom lenses I've ever used (Nikon, Canon, Zuiko) that can compare to their telephoto prime counterparts. The optics are simply different.I agree that there is some degradation at 600mm with this lens, but for my purposes it is negligible.As an example, the attached photo was taken with a Nikon Z7-II at full zoom, 600mm, ISO 64, f/6.3 at 1/400s. I didn't expect this beautiful bird to show up and I had no tripod handy, so this was taken hand-held. Focus centered on the eagle's wing and as can be seen in the cropped image, the detail is fantastic. DOF is pretty narrow, though. Look closely at the wing feathers to see how sharp the lens is.I've been extremely pleased with this lens and recommend it highly if you need the versatility of 180mm to 600mm. Maybe Nikon will ramp up production?

Great lens, poor shipping by Amazon
This is a great lens. Exceeds expectations and is highly recommended.However, the lens arrived with the lens cap embedded into the top of the lens, almost certainly due to the box being dropped during shipping. Why would Amazon ship a $2,000 lens in only the original manufacturer's box? The damaged to the lens, while not major, could easily have been avoided by shipping the lens inside an additional cardboard box costing $0.25. Amazon needs to do better.

Very sharp, and smooth.
First day out for a few shots. I snapped a Bald Eagle about 500 yards away being harassed by a seagull. Shot a Snowy Egret plucking minnows at low tide, alongside a Greater Yellowlegs. Autofocus was crisp in afternoon sunlight. I’m shooting with a Z5II, so my crop is limited with 24 megapixels. All things considered, I’m very satisfied with the results compared to my 80-400 G with FTZ adapter. Overall color rendering is clean and saturated. This lens is an excellent choice if you’re looking for an affordable 600mm Z mount.

I am an intermediate photographer part of photo clubs and this lens delivers. I don’t find it that heavy in the sense that I can carry it for an hour or so and I’m still very much ok (older woman here). Got top grads on wild life images captured with this lens so I’m not the only one impressed with it’s quality.
