Which areas is this de-icing salt intended for?

It is intended for paths, drives, steps and car parks.

When should I spread the salt?

Spread it when frost, ice or snow is forecast, preferably before ice settles. Allow time for it to dissolve, and avoid spreading during heavy rain because it can wash the salt away.

Can it be used once snow or ice has already formed?

Yes. It is made to melt snow and help prevent ice reforming. Clear fresh, loose snow first where practical, then spread the salt over remaining icy areas; compacted snow is harder to treat.

How should I store the salt between cold spells?

Keep it dry and protected from rain. For bulk stock, use suitable covered storage or dry grit bins, and manage the area so salty run-off cannot reach watercourses or soakaways.

Should I pour water on the ice before spreading the salt?

No. We advise against using water because it may refreeze as black ice. Spread the salt itself over the area being treated.
