Give the hose a short sharp pull(approximate 3-5 in) and you will feel the hose automatically retract. You can interrupt this process to unlock by pulling the hose again.

Extend the hose to its full length and then permit it to retract smoothly as you walk it back to the hose reel housing . This will alow the self-retracting mechanism to retwind the hose correctly into the reel.
