No sew, but a designer look!
I watched the YouTube videos for these kits before ordering, as I had a hard time believing that they would be easy, or look as good as the pictures. I recommend watching the videos because it gives you a much better idea of how best to use these design forms, and once you understand the process, it's far less intimidating. The videos break it down step by step, and my advice is to take your time and be methodical in creating your valances. I like to lay out my fabrics and trims in different arrangements before I decide upon a final design, and then I start cutting my fabrics to the design form dimensions. My dining room table is ideal for this, even if it is looking a bit like a fabric hoarder's paradise at present. You can reuse these design forms, and theoretically create custom valances for every room of your house, the only thing you'll need is the fabrics of your choice, and possibly additional fusible fabric depending upon how many valances you're creating. You use a fusible fabric and an iron to attach your lining to your decorative fabrics, and the template/design forms can be moved, or additional forms traced several times, to allow for multiple window sizes, and different styles of valances.Because our decor style runs towards the maximalist, old world style, being able to create structured valances to put in front and just above our drapes allows us to create window treatments that perfectly match our aesthetic, and I know for the valances at least, I won't have to break out the sewing machine, which is another plus!
