This sand was excellent and a great value for the price! It was clean and free of any debris and the black color is consistent. It made the cactus 🌵 pop out against the black sand.

Used to prevent gnats from infesting my plants. It creates a barrier. Has a beautiful shimmer to it.

Ordered this as a means of hopefully controlling fungus gnats in my plants, since I understand they won't lay eggs in sand. (Seems to be working too!) Anyway, aside from the bug benefit, this sand has a lightly shiny look, and looks really nice as a top coat to my soil.

Very good but a little powdery, overall, I would recommend as you get a lot of soil covering for a very low price!

Like others, I had a fungus gnat infestation. Two of my trees got so bad that they had to go outside. Sticky traps reduced the adult population but they just wouldn’t go away. I bought this sand and put a layer on top of each infested plant and switched to bottom watering. It’s a small bag, but I was able to put a top layer on 5 plants and still have some leftover. It eradicated the fungus gnats entirely. Totally worth the purchase. The sand does shimmer a bit but I don’t mind it as long as it means the annoying little insects are gone.

This is the ONLY thing that helped me get gnats out of my house! Tried everything else - diatomaceous dirt, hydrogen peroxide in water, etc, - nothing got rid of gnats beside putting maybe a quarter inch of this on top of the dirt in my plants. Adults can't get thru it to lay eggs and babies can't dig up thru it. Highly recommend!

I use this to keep gnats out of my soil. It works very well as long as you make it at least in inch deep, so maybe to the top of your first knuckle. It's not a perfect pitch black. It seems to have the slightest forest green hue, but honestly at a distance it doesn't seem that way and mostly appears black. I like this product a lot and have purchased it multiple times. It's fine right on top of the soil and there is no need for a barrier between it and the soil. Just make sure you water a carefully because you can displace the sand and leave a dibbet.

It’s very sparkly and does look a bit in the green side rather than black maybe it’s reflecting green from the plants because of the shiny-ness, bc in the bag it’s black.Bought to try to deter slugs from my plants. It didn’t help with that.
