Can I use this duct tape for a car muffler?

No, unfortunately you can't. I'm assuming to plug a hole or such? The problem is, the tape will stick when the muffler is cold, once it heats up upon use, then gets cold again the tape will sag and fall off.

Sorry if I missed this... Is this 3 inch width tape? I see it fits a 3 inch diameter gun.

The width is 1.88". The diameter of the inside core is 3". Please do not mistaken this to be a 3" wide tape. It will fit a standard 2" wide tape gun that has a 3" diameter core. It will not fit a 3" wide tape gun because this tape is 2" wide. Hope that makes sense.

does duck tape work well to secure carpet runners with a rubber back on top of existing carpet? The usual carpet tape leaves glue residue on carpet.

It is just like the duct tape you would purchase at a local store. I didn't use it for that type of job. It doesn't seem to leave as much of a residue as other tapes though.

Can i use to hold wiring in pace on a lift chair remote?

It's duct tape, and it is pretty strong, I guess it depends on what your are securing the tape too, but if your just wrapping it around wires, it should do the trick
