Excellent primer
I have friends who are experienced rifle cartridge reloaders (I only have experience with reloading shotgun shells) and they have given me good advise, but, "will I remember what they verbally told me when I need it"? This book is a concise summary of all of that advise and much more. I highly recommend this book to anyone considering reloading rifle or pistol cartridges; LOTS of practical tips and it's written with a sense of humor and humility.

All the questions a newbie reloader could ask, are answered!
I've been considering starting reloading, and got this to review what I should look for. The very first thing to realize, is that there are ZERO reloading recipes. There is also no specific product recommendations; just what is known by McHale to work for each of the steps. Instead, McHale starts at the very beginning, assuming that you know very little about the subject, and takes the reader thru each of the parts of a loaded round, and explains the variations you're likely to find, as well as the tools you'll need to address each step of the process. The idea of "crimping" is discussed at length, because there are times that it's called for, and times it may not be. You'll understand "when" and "why" better after that section is read and understood. He explains that you'll probably not save any money, but you will gain the knowledge of making ammunition that might not be very available otherwise, if you have the components and tools. There are warnings and sidebars thruout the book for many of the steps, and all the book is worth reading a couple times, just to comprehend what you'd be setting yourself up for, if you do decide to start reloading.I HIGHLY recommend this book for a would-be reloader. It'll help with your level of understanding.

Great for beginners, Was hoping for more
I’m brand new to reloading, but have been digesting hundreds of articles, YouTube videos, and forum posts for quite some time before putting my hands on reloading equipment. As I started reloading I wanted a more encompassing guide than my Hornady Reloading Manual provided, so I ordered this book. The book is well organized, and a quick and entertaining read. I wish I had gotten it as my very first introduction to reloading as it does a good job of going over the basics, but for my needs it fell short. I was hoping for help on load development, which this book does not provide information on.I hope to see future books from the author, especially a book for intermediates to experts!

Great Book for Beginners
I purchased this book and another beginner's book on reloading. This book was by far superior for the novice. This is not to say that the other book was terrible or that it did not have some useful information -- it did, but "The Insanely Practical Guide To Reloading Ammunition" was superior because of it's clarity and progression of thought. The author stayed on point and did not assume you already understood the terms he was using. They were defined as needed. There is a difference between someone who knows the topic but is not as gifted a teacher/communicator and one who is a great teacher who also knows the topic well. Tom McHale is definitely the latter. If you are thinking about getting into ammunition reloading, in my opinion, this is the first book to get. It was quite an enjoyable read and I'm sure I will refer to it again. I will now likely look at other offerings by this author.A note on the Kindle Edition. If you have a non-color Kindle, you will want to read the Kindle version on a laptop or tablet so that the detail in the pictures will show better.

Solid basics with good pointers for beginners
May fall short of what some may expect. Basics for reloading with good explanations on minimum gear as well as how to go overboard. Liability issues are a real concern so a beginner book suggesting the next read is a manufacturer reloading manual.

No BS and very helpfull
As a newcomer considering reloading , I found this book very helpfull in deciding if I really wanted to go to the expense and trouble of reloading my own ammo. Explained in a format that showed you all the steps in a practical way, outlines all the gear you need to get started, and looks at equipment upgrades for the future should you decide to upgrade. A really down to earth guide on the how too's without all the confusion normally found in a lot of books.
