SALTernative Shiitake Mushroom and Kombu Powder, 60 g

It tastes not remotely like salt. Which is not surprising because the only thing that tastes like salt is salt. I knew that already but for some reason I still made the purchase.Certain foods taste of salt but only if they've got salt in them. This is 10% seaweed and 90% mushroom and thus tastes like mushroom; that is to say earthy and bitter. I included half a teaspoon with some rice and got rice reminiscent of cardboard with a hint of soil. I found myself adding twice as much salt just to disguise the taste.This no more is an alternative to salt than lettuce is an alternative to sugar, or candyfloss an alternative to beer. I did wonder why it was not more popular - something that allegedly tastes like salt yet has none of the negative health impact of salt; now I know.

The best before date on the back of the packet I received was printed on a sticker (09/2020).Thinking nothing of it, I decided to peel it back and to my shock it was covering the original expiry date, September 2019! Brilliant....Cannot comment on the product itself - not willing to try the 6 month past it's expiry date flavour.

Fab product from very honest seller.Wish there was a pure mushroom version. Really adds flavour to dish - watch out as it's very powdery so store carefully

Great product easy to use and adjust recipes. Needed to drop salt out of the patients diet so used this instead. easy to use and great flavor.
