Buy it
Attention all trout fishermen and fisherwomen. This is a huge upgrade to the short standard tethers. I saw them in the flyshop on display. Sure had heartburn for the $45 price tag at numerous fly shops. Found it on Amazon for $27.00. Since my purchase, four others have obtained from Amazon. This tether extends way beyond your arm unlike the cheapy kind that might have 16-18โ. I highly recommend this Gerber product.

Durable and reliable
These are great quality and last a while. My husband only uses this brand for work.

This does not have a 'lock' as depicted.
Maybe this is me, but in reading about this ZINGER, I was lead to believe that there was a lock to prevent the zinger from retracting. As it turns out, you loop a finger through a hole and that is what prevents the retracting; nothing original in this design. I will keep it, but a little $ for what it actually does. My old Gear Keeper was more innovative, but also more $$$

Great badge holder
Saw this and thought to myself, this would be a great badge holder. This thing is sturdy! I have to carry 3 badges and a key set at work. This thing secures them all, and you can lock them in place when you are not using them. It is expensive for this purpose, if it lasts a year or two it is worth it.

I was skeptical at first, but...
The Gerber Defender Compact Tether worked way better than I though it would. I am using it with the Neat Freak scissors and I really like it. Don't be discouraged by those dumb videos of actors, dangling tethered scissors from their bodies, exposing a sharp tool to chance. The tether is small, clips onto the bottom of your right pocket seam. I keep the scissors in my right cargo pocket, out of the way until I need them. The finger loop does work as indicated. I'm fishing on rocks and jetties, with a crazy dog, near the mouth of the Columbia river. The retractable tether, with the scissors work really well for cutting bait and line, it is at the ready, then out of the way just as fast.

Great Zinger
I use this to tether my fly fishing nippers. The dual attachment system is well designed and the most secure you can find. Cable is long and strong. Best zinger available

Used 3+ years. 5 days/week
I bought one to hold my keycard at work, which is used probably 100x a day. Since day one it hasn't let me down yet. Still retracts quickly, there's some discoloring to the line but there doesn't seem any sign of it breaking. I paired my with a brass hook so I could easily and quickly throw it on my belt loop.

Metal is very cheap/weak
I owned this for two months and used it daily for my keys (in a keysmart). After the first day or two I could see the orange paint wearing away off the clasp but I figured whatever, I didn't particularly care for the orange anyways. However after a few more day I could see the metal start to wear away. The metal loop on my keysmart doesn't have a mark on it but this Gerber defender was starting to lose worse and worse. It eventually got bad enough that one time when I snagged it the clasp just bent (see pics) before the release even went off. I had a cheap generic $10 one off amazon that I used before it for years so this is rather disappointing. TLDR - the metal is super cheap, don't trust this with anything valuable.

Absolutely love this
I bought this for an ice fishing rod when last year I lost one because of poor grip and this retractable line has saved me multiple times on the ice

Good but
good quality of build. Just not strong enough to hold something heavier than what I anticipated. Would prefer to have a lb or oz rating
