Alphas: Season 1

Good but some scenes are poorly thoughtout
This is a REALLY good show with a lot of potential but sometimes there are some moments where I don't understand the motivation of some characters. The characters are love-able, absolutely awesome characters. Everyone is unique, and immediately you get attached to them. But sometimes there are these scenes that just dont fit, where I can't understand their motivation, and thats too bad because it sort of kills it for me. This show is very close to 5 stars in my book, but its missing that last start because of this. For example: *Spoiler alert* there is a scene where they are trapped in the office with an invisible mercenary stabbing people, and in the middle of all this Nina and Cameron have a 'moment' at the height of the chaos. Like WTF? Really? Someone just stabbed you whom you can't see and you are getting lubby with another in your group. Come on. There's no time for that!*end of spoiler alert*Another thing, one of my favorite characters is Gary, he is smart but missing some social screws up there, but sometimes its like he becomes normal, which doesnt make sense to me. Other times he is waaaay too extra autistic/asperger which is conflicting with what just happened either in the last scene or the last episode. So it needs some work. But the upside, I really wish there were more episodes/seasons, it had a lot of potential. I just started Season 2. I really can enjoy this and I do look forward to having my personal day to my self just to watch this show. Its going to suck when I run out of episodes.Watch it, I hardly ever write a review, so if you ask me it is worth it.

I Went Into Alphas Knowing It Got Cancelled
Alphas has been on my “to watch” list for awhile because it has been suggested from other shows I enjoyed watching (Heroes, The 4400, etc.). I always like when shows like this this try to take a real spin on the concept of “special abilities”. X-Men is great, but I like having the feeling in the back of your mind that goes “ya know, this really could happen!”Alphas is one of those shows that does this in a subtle way while still keeping the show extremely entertaining. One thing Alpha’s does really well is present a group of very likable characters (for the most part *cough*Nina*cough*).Gary is a GREAT character and I came to like Bill, Hicks and Rachel more within the first few episodes. Overall it is a fun show that lets you suspend disbelief and just enjoy some original, well written science fiction. Especially with the LACK of options in current programming, Alphas is a welcomed change of pace from many of uninspired attempts at Sci-Fi that have been coming out over the past few years. If you have Prime, watch the first 3 episodes and I am sure you will be hooked. If you enjoyed X-Men, Heroes, The 4400, etc Alpha’s will be right up your alley.

SCi Fi's channel Alphas Season 1
Great concept if you're into X-Men, Heroes, Mutant X and other movies/TV series about mutants living a society that feels threatened by others that are superior to them. Most of season 1 spends a great deal of time in character development as well as throwing in subtle hints about the nature of the antagonist group called Red Flag, speculating that the Alpha's nemesis might not be as Evil as one would expect. I like this shift in direction form the story line as most movies or series want you to really hate the "bad guys". Certain scenes have the main characters questioning their real purpose for the Team's existence, however the series marches forward from episode to the next where its a business as usual by catching bad guys and putting them away. The Series is almost up there in production level and story telling as Fringe, (no disrespect to JJ Abrams) and for that I give it 4 stars. IMHO, Sci Fi hit a bullseye with this series and I'm glad that Amazon has it free to Prime members. I just started watching season 2 and so far I'm liking the direction its going. As I was hoping for a Season 3, I read at the time of this review, that Sci-Fi Channel has made the decision last January to cancel the series. Such a shame as this series had a lot of potential due its diversity from main stream series.

This show is awesome SyFy, please don't cancel it
I also hope this show becomes more about the characters which have really good chemistry and the writing is witty. The sci fi component with the super powers is done well, and mostly explained with nonsensical technobabble. If you care that those kinds of things make sense or aren't ridiculous you might evaluate the technical accuracy of this show on the level of Fringe, for better or for worse. From the pilot I get the impression that this show is really all about the cast and the writing. This is not a Heroes, which at first was a fun mystery but after the first season just kind of outstayed its welcome. If there are any mysteries in Alphas, they're macguffins driving character development.Network production quality, does not at all seem like a cheap cable show. They're spending money on this show, although the special powers are such that they don't really need a lot of expensive CG. Nobody is opening any vortexes to another dimension or lifting buildings with thoughts in this show. The powers are all very low key stuff. Enhanced perception, persuasion, fast reflexes. This show is great for all the right reasons, and I hope syfy will keep it around, even though it isn't wrestling. I doubt this show will appeal to young teens, SfyFy's mainstay, so not sure if it will have staying power.
