Untwisting Scriptures: that were used to tie you up, gag you, and tangle your mind

Needed if people in your life use the "forgiveness" as a means for keeping you enslaved to abusers.
my husband and I have worked for years learning to have boundaries and have even implemented no contact with some covert narcissists in our life. We think it is very important to understand the whole counsel of God in regard to these very key subjects such as forgiveness and reconciliation. This book helps untwist some of the deceptions that keeps people bound to relationships and guilt that is not from Him. This is a bible study on the truth that will set you free to live and love yourself so you will be free to actually love others as you love yourself.

Rebecca Davis has incredible compassion for women who have been emotionally, spiritually, or physically abused. While she cites much from Bill Gothard, who is a "has been," she makes excellent points. There will be more Gothards with a more slick and insidious message. Also, she is the first person, of whom I am aware, who uses the word "bittenessr" as it is used in the Bible-- meaning someone in great anguish. Mrs. Davis demonstrates how "bitter" should not be used to describe hurt women as a way to further "quiet" and crush them. There are so few books on this topic, and Mrs. Davis takes a bold and courageous step without a hint of being acrid.

Breath of Fresh Air
This is a book that you wish you had read a long time ago. There's so many powerful nuggets in this easy, quick read. Plus, Rebecca Davis is a very talented writer who keeps you turning the page. The book covers two main issues:1) whether Christians are called by God to yield their rights2) studying the real root of bitternessWhile that might sound pretty simple, this book has a lot to it. Now there is one thing that I'd like to mention about this book. As you enjoy this book, keep a balanced perspective by remembering the words of Christ on the importance of forgiveness. (Matthew 16:12 & 18:35)Forgiveness means never having to be in the same room with that person again. (Reconciliation NOT REQUIRED)Forgiveness means NEVER trusting that person again.Forgiveness means seeking justice to stop the perpetrator from harming someone else.Forgiveness means taking whatever actions are necessary to protect ourselves and others.Forgiveness means allowing ourselves to grieve and process the emotions, then reaching a point where we can release any bitterness to protect our own mental health. We don't have to like that person or ever talk to them again, but forgiveness is the command of Christ because it protects us from the damage of holding the emotions inside. The only thing I wish that this book had was a deeper discussion of the importance of forgiveness. We must remember Jesus' warning to us that if we don't forgive others, God won't forgive us.

WOW!, I would give this book 10 stars because it is that good. It is a must read for anyone that went to Bill Gothard's seminars and were tied up with the false notions of "bitterness". A little book that gives a big big punch to his and other copy cats teachings on rights, anger and bitterness. I hope the author has more to come. Again, this is a WOW!

An Important Work
Rebecca Davis has a clear understanding of the Word and is gifted in untwisting commonly mistaught scriptures. I have learned so much from her blog and this book. I highly recommend Untwisting Scriptures if you have been counseled in a way that added more burdens to you or additional confusion to your already foggy thinking.

Time to Stop Twisting
The issue of “bitterness” was especially good and insightful. There is a need for all Christians to study Scripture carefully in its proper context, rather than just repeat quotes from what they have heard.A good read.

Helpful book!
I found this book refreshing as it helped to clarify the meaning of bitterness, grief, and taking up offenses. It can be extremely disheartening and confusing when those you look up to in ministry use scripture in a twisted way to silence anyone who has a problem or discourage coming alongside a hurting friend.Well written and thought provoking.

A very important book for anyone who has experienced spiritual abuse. I highly recommend!
Rebecca Davis is a gifted writer, but her greatest gift is her heart. This book comes out of her heart for those who have been wounded and oppressed by misuse of power through scripture. It addresses some of the main twistings or lies that are used to keep the oppressed down. The truths shared in this book help set people free. It is a very important book for those coming out of oppressive systems. I highly recommend it!

Recommended Read
If you have been part of very conservative or controlling or cult like Christian religious group; this book is essential to your well being and getting out of the webs of deceit woven by individuals that wanted power over you. Absolutely essential. Well written; and well scriptural based. Lots of scripture to support or disprove certain beliefs.
