Mederma is clinically shown to improve the overall appearance, color, and texture of scars. More doctors and pharmacists recommended Mederma than any other brand for older and newer scars. It works for many types of scars, including acne scars, surgery scars, and scars from burns, cuts, and other injuries. and since you only have to apply Mederma Advanced Scar Gel once a day, it's easy to use.

Noticeable results on scars even months after surgery.
This version of the product has to be applied several times a day which I just don't have the patience for but even without perfect application I was able to notice significant results with its use. I do recommend the newer version of this product though which uses a timed release formula so you only need to apply it once or twice a day. It is quite a bit more expensive though from what I have seen. This is highly recommended product. I used it on a belly scar that was bad because I was overweight when I had my surgery which caused a wide, raised scar and this radically reduced the raise so that I can't feel it anymore and decreased the color a significant amount. I used this product several months after my surgery however and not directly after which is when it is best, right after it heals over, start using this product. It should be noticed that I also combined this product with alternating applications of concentrated NATURAL vitamin E oil 40,000 IU. I recommend using the products together as this will help soften and reduce the scar while the vitamin E allows rapid repairing of cells and the creation of strong, healthy new cells as the scar forms and the wound heals.

Scar is fading to nothing
I bought this for my mom after she had a knee replacement, and 19 weeks later her scar is mostly gone. I took off a star because she is also using vitamin E lotion in the morning and the Mederma before bed, so I can't honestly say the fading of the scar is definitely attributed to the Mederma. We do think it is, however, as she started to see massive improvements after purchasing and using the Mederma for a few weeks. It does have a tiny bit of a funky odor, but it's not overpowering or able to be smelled like a cloud of perfume following her around town. I was very surprised at how small the tube was, even though I clearly saw the amount listed on the product page, but a little absolutely goes a long way with this stuff. We have had the tube about two months and are no where near needing more yet. If you have a new and supple scar, give this a try.

working well
i've always wanted a five inch scar on my ass from a hip replacement, but never wanted the raised scar tissue to go with it. this stuff solves the problem. i get to live my dream of an artificial joint that sets off magnetometers, and still get the supercool scar softened down to fairly smooth (though still visible) punctuation mark... in my limited experience, this stuff does what it says it will, but i would also not be surprised if the variables among individuals' skin and scar tissue, and the variables among methods of suturing incisions, make the mileage vary for some.regardless of individual results, i get the sense that the product is as good as can be obtained...update, 25 november 2016: this stuff definitely works to soften scar tissue, old or new. as expensive as it may seem, a tube of this really goes a long way. i'm a couple of weeks past the recommended course for my hip scar, and the tissue is as smooth and pliable as the surrounding skin. the product has also had a continuing softening effect on a couple of scars from old arm wounds.

MEDERMA Advanced Scar Gel - 50 gr
I had some minor surgery a year-and-a-half ago that left a 2" scar. I started out with the regular strength Mederma, applying it twice a day. I later gravitated to the Mederma Advance Scar Gel. They both worked the same, except, with the advance formula, I only have to apply the gel once a day. I liked the once-a-day application better, having to do it twice a day, I sometimes forget. So, how well does it work? Without a side by side comparison, it is hard to tell. However, I do believe it helps to lighten the dark scar faster than not using it. Nothing is going to make the scar vanish, but it is less noticeable on my light complexion. Buying a 50gr tube is cheaper since it will probably take at least 2-3 of years to get satisfactory results. Don't be overly concerned about the tiny size of the tube. My 25gr advance gel lasted 6 months, so I'm expecting the 50gr tube to last a year.

Worked fast, I was surprised!
I had skin tags in my axillary region cauterized. Sadly, the procedure was not done properly and I now have scar tissue where the skin tags used to be. I use Mederma to lighten the scar (dots, actually). I was expecting to see results after I finish a tube or two, but I was pleasantly surprised to see changes in the color of my scars after about 2 weeks of use. I will continue to use this until my scars are very light and almost invisible. I already bought a second tube. I don’t want to run out of this amazing product! I highly recommend it.
