Fantastic adapter.
Used this for my ThinkPad 600 that refuses to take drives above 8GB. Slipped in a Transcend 8GB CF card into the primary slot, attached the unit, done! Worked first time. One thing to note is that on most laptops, there is a pin that is usually blocked to key the drive's orientation so you don't plug it in wrong. This pin is NOT missing which was not an issue on this ThinkPad, but may be on others. If your card is 3.3v only, you will need to change a soldered jumper on the inside of the unit to the other pads. Other than that, it's fantastic, and I might even buy this for some of my more advanced laptops that could do with a better drive.

Works great, though had to modify it.
I bought this for a retro laptop I was refurbishing, and it worked perfectly. The only thing I would say about this is that key pin 20 is present on this device. This means that this may not fit into some devices that have this pin blocked out. This can be rectified quite easily by simply cutting out pin 20 on this device using some snips (pin 20 serves no functional purpose, so cutting it off shouldn't do any harm. Nonetheless, I'm not responsible for any damage done if you choose to follow this advice).

Replacing a laptop drive
I bought this device to replace a failed 2.5 inch hard drive in an Aurora desktop computer (which is compatible with the old Sinclair QL). It has two compact flash adaptor slots and constructed to fit where a 2.5 inch hard disk drive would fit. May need a 44 to 40 pin IDE adaptor if connecting to a 3.5 inch 40 pin IDE connection (the extra pins are for power) - these are available at low cost on Amazon too. I used 4GB compact flash cards to provide a main and backup drive for the Aurora, which worked well and has proven reliable in use so far.

Not for 3.5" trayless bays
I got this to use a CF card in a 2.5" trayless SATA bay - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001CYZC381. The adaptor is just a bit over 9mm, so it doesn't slide freely in the bay.2. The adaptor back edge is cutaway and misses the spring on the bay door, so the SATA doesn't engage properly.Apart from that, the SATA and USB 2.0 interfaces work. There are standard 2.5" mounting holes.

works on a 44 pin pc cheaper than a 44pin harddrive

Syba Compact Flash to Dual Interface SATA II and USB 2.0 2.5 inch Adapter
A really neat little device for making a small capacity ssd for embedded systems, or to use as a small portable ssd via the usb port. A bit expensive for what it is but still highly recommended
