Work well with bluing

The swabs are excellent. They're very robust and strong. I was expecting them to be rather fiddly, but they're like an extension you your hand/finger. The loop in the wire handle is more than sufficient to allow you to get a secure grip on them. The actual wad material can be a little reluctant to absorb liquids at first, so don't try pouring stuff straight onto them. It's like water off a ducks back. Best bet is to pour a little into a glass, and dip the swab in that. The first time it just needs a little wiggling about until it begins absorbing liquids. After a few seconds it's right as rain, and from then on they're faultless. Durability wise, I used just one to apply about 5 coats of blue to a muzzle weight about 40mm dia by 90mm long, with about half the total surface knurled. That one swap survived quite happily! All in all, an excellent and really useful product.

Too many loose fibres come off these. Use a lint free cloth for applying stains etc if you want the perfect finish.

These "swaubs" are thicker than almost anyone else offers, and work well for the normal use-- firearms cleaning and restoration-- but also are great for arts and crafts, allowing the pre-schoolers to hand make a sculpture, and, after it is set, then to use these thicker swabs to use very thick paints to both color it and fill in minor inperfections during drying or firing in the kiln or oven. They really should be listed in the arts and crafts section, too.

These work really well for applying bluing agent onto metal surfaces. I used to use old rags and q-tips but these are better because you have the steel handle that separates your hands from the bluing agent and doesn't create lint on the item you are putting bluing agent on. These will last me a long time for how much I blue things. After getting these I won't go back to rags and q-tips.

I do a lot of gun cold bluing and these are my favourite swabs to use.
