What is the clearance between the ground and the tumbler? Enough room for a wheelbarrow?

Aaron, the clearance between the absolute bottom edge and the ground is 20 inches. That would assume the you intend to pour the contents straight down. The clearance from the bottom edge of the panel with the door, assuming your wheelbarrow is along side or partly under the tumbler is 30 inches. I find this perfectly reasonable because I do not empty all the contents out at one time. In fact, not so different from a "starter" in making sour dough bread, it is useful to leave some of the contents in the tumbler.

Has anyone placed the Joraform in a garage or shed indoors? Would it smell too much to do so?

I wish I had room in my garage or shed for mine. I have mine on my back patio and don't have any issues with odor whatsoever. I don't think it is a matter of smell at all. You may get some flies and gnats though. Just a part of composting. If it does get smelly, add some wood chips or shredded cardboard. You have too much "green matter". It is really best to mix a full load at a time so you get the right mix. If you want to continue adding kitchen scraps, start with at least 80% browns, and add the greens as you go. Keep it moist, but not wet.

Given that the composter is insulated, how important is the placement within the yard? I'd rather place it in my side yard but it gets less sun...

I read that I should place the composter in a shadier part of the yard. I got my composter this last winter and located it on the north side of the house. This is a little used area so it was as much for aesthetics as it was for advise. Anyway, our winters are pretty severe. I am in a zone 5. It got down past zero this year. I did not notice much composting action until spring. I never tried the hot water bottle trick, but I did add some compost starter when I got desperate for something to happen. As soon as the weather warmed up, this composter took off and I have one side that I am using on the garden already and the other side is already halfway done. I am very happy with the composter and don't blame it for not being too effective in the winter. If I had it to do over again, I might put the composter on the sunny side of the house, but then it would bake in the summer!

will this model make compost tea

I don't think it does purposely. However, I placed a mixing tub underneath it and it does drip compost tea. Rain mixes with it and you develop even more. My answer is not scientific and I don 't know how strong the tea is.
