Just slightly twist the button which locates at the bottom of the lighting base clockwise to turn on the light--and if the light dosen't turn on,then twist clockwise one more circle.

Google the size online and see what comes up, or check Walmart and probably Target.

What size batteries does it take and how long do they last?

392 or 384 or equivalent. They don't last very long. If you leave them installed, they will probably run flat while you're no looking.
