Definitely a good buy so far!!
So I wasn't sure how my cats were going like this or not and I was a little wary on spending the money..I went back and forth on ordering it because it's a little more pricey than some of the other ones. But I did a lot of research and with all the things that were important to me.. this one was the best one for what I was looking for. That's safety, quietness, stability, durability and room for both kitties to be in it if they wanted to. I will start with the negative about it. I found it very hard to put together at the start.. I definitely recommend having two people put it together and a cordless screwdriver to speed it up and to make it easier... it went much faster with my husband and I doing it together. The instruction sheet that comes with it is just one page front and back and it's hard to really understand what everything is and there is a video where you can scan a QR code or whatever you call it and watch the video.. the model on the video is a different one so two boards were reversed when putting it together and on the video it says that they could be reversed BUT I didn't know what they were talking about lol until we put them together and then I looked at the sheet and finally it made sense that i had them backwards, once we got to that point everything went together easy and honestly it really isn't difficult it's just a little confusing to get started cuz you just don't know what you're doing... it would be nice if they marked the parts with the letter that they are but it's just on the bag for most of them. okay now the positives... it is big and roomy for my kitties but it's not oppressively big.. The sound it makes when in movement... I can hear it when they're on it but it's not overbearing where if I'm sitting in the other room listening to TV it's going to bother me. I actually work in the office where the cat wheel is and it doesn't distract me when I'm focused so far this morning. We put it together last night and the cats were instantly curious about it and using the Little Feather toy that it came with it I was able to get them to walk on it right away. I moved it up inside the wheel higher so they would move up on it and hoped the movement wouldn't scare them (I kind of held it with my other hand so that it wouldn't like move too fast and scare them really bad right away) and they both seem to like it. Went to bed last night, got up this morning and I sprayed one little spot with catnip about 3/4 of the way up the wheel for my one cat and she instantly went on it and started to go up to where it was sprayed of course she licked and smelled where the catnip was sprayed. But then probably about 5 minutes later I heard the wheel moving I looked over and my big cat was walking on the wheel. She didn't let my little cat near it for a while but when she finally came off at my little cat got on it and she also was walking on the wheel. I was super surprised that they took to the wheel so fast.. not to mention happy i didn't waste my money... I highly recommend this product.

Excellent, Solid Construction. Well worth the money...
Oh my word! Nordic Beast, you Rock!! Seriously, I hemmed and hawed for weeks over whether to purchase the 48" Nordic wheel for my 4 cats. It is a lot of money for a cat toy. My husband and I finally took the plunge. It is one of the best decisions. We do not regret it one bit. First, every piece of the wheel was BEAUTIFULLY packed in bubble wrap. Seriously, no scratches or damage. The packing was so thought out. I was so pleased at the care and respect taken to package all the bits and pieces. I mean who wants to spend a lot of money on something they have to put together only to find pieces of it scratched or damaged in which you have to take the time to have that piece replaced. I mean nothing is more disappointing than being excited about something for your fur babies only to have to be delayed further. This is definitely not one of those instances! I felt that the company appreciated the fact that I was purchasing their product for my wonderful fur babies and they let me know by taking care that their product would be delivered safely and undamaged. The instructions were super easy to understand, but I did appreciate the fact that there was a video I could watch just to make sure I was putting the wheels on correctly. I did see other reviews where purchasers were saying they got thin cuts from handling the wood pieces. I noticed in the package with all of the screws and bolts, they had included a pair of gloves to assist with the installation of the pieces. I only use them for a few pieces, but as a whole I did not use the gloves. But I did feel that it was so awesome to know that the company listen to the reviewers comments and added the gloves for future purchasers. At least that was my take on it because why else would people comment about getting cuts if they had a pair of gloves that were included to use. Also, I did note that the instructions said to glue the velcro down, however the velcro that was included in my box was the super adhesive kind so no glue was necessary. I am not sure if that was an earlier version of the instructions , but it was not needed for my installation of the wheel . It was super easy to place the adhesive velcro all around the inside rails to hold the carpet. Another thing that I definitely want to note is I love that this company included wood anchors for all of the pieces. I have put together so many things through the years that just have you screwed directly into wood but then after much use the screws end up breaking through the wood and then the piece is no longer sturdy. By using these anchors that fit beautifully into the pre-drilled holes, I believe that it leads to so much stronger construction of the unit. My husband and I did not want to put our money to other cat wheels by other companies because we believe that the Nordic Beast is the real deal and not a knock off like the other cat wheels. We did not want to put the safety of our fur babies into a product just because it was less expensive. The track sounds like a smooth roller skate or skate board. It is not disturbing to listen to in the least. We have the Nordic Beast near our television so we can enjoy watching the cats play on the wheel while we're watching TV. We started out with a laser pointer to entice the cats to play on the wheel, but the cats were already interested because they were watching every phase of my putting the wheel together. I am so confident in the construction. Within 30 minutes of putting it in place, one of my cats had already figured out the wheel and was using it for a few turns peaking the interest of the others. Of course, the one cat that really needs it just wanted to use it as a cat bed the first night. 😆 I was pleasantly surprised the second day when one of my other cats started to use the wheel at full speed for a few turns. It makes our hearts happy to know that our cats can get their zoomies out without tearing up my house or knocking things over! 🤣 Still waiting on our big girl to use the wheel, but I am sure she won't be too far behind. Please, if you have any reservations about getting the wheel, be rest assured that the Nordic Beast is well worth the money and entertainment! Your fur babies will thank you!

Beyond worth it!! Your cats will Love You more for this
I cannot say enough good things about this product. My cats are over the moon, and took to it in less than 2 minutes (no exaggeration) of luring them onto it with the wand toy. Good quality plywood pieces, with quality lamination. all very clean cut edges appearing to be potentially from a CNC machine or the factory equivalent. I chose this over Some plastic alternative models as I felt the added weight would help keep the wheel in place by adding some stability. I don’t think my cats could tip this thing if they tried. Even with two on at once it’s robust, sturdy, quiet, and a genuine conversation piece. You can almost display it like Art, and when the cats are on it that just adds to it. I’m 5’11 180 lbs and this thing is literally big enough for me to do a somersault on. I’m not gonna try it because I suspect I’m a little over the weight limit, but it’s a phenomenal “space” to provide your cat, especially those relegated to the indoors. Assembly was not complicated, but it took just about an hour. I did have an electric driver which certainly made a difference. Again, nothing all that technical here but a bit of redundancy and it’s helpful to have enough floor space to lay the whole wheel on its side when connecting the arches and even when putting the rungs/legs in. There was a small mixup with my order, but Erik(Nordic Beast Manager) addressed my concern swiftly, professionally, and completely. He employed a customer first mentality, and seemed most concerned w/ my satisfaction. I suspect it’s because he knew once the wheel arrived it would be game over. Pay full price or buy it twice. The alternatives are really not much cheaper and this feels like it’ll last forever Thelma Louise Wendy and Tinker Bell are very pleased with me right now.

Stable and smooth
I am taking off one star because the directions want you to build the wheel in sections, then attach them all together at once which is awkward and can lead to breakage at the joins. Instead, I found it much easier to build one side of the wheel, flip it over and build out the other side. The cat wand was essential for luring my scaredy cats onto the platform and is very well made - three cats have yet to pull the feathers out. I wouldn't consider this wheel to be "XL" as it is perfectly-sized for average-sized female cats. If this item had a larger diameter, I don't think the cats could get the wheel moving because of the additional weight. If the wheel were any smaller, my cats would probably be uncomfortable. The width of the wheel is excellent and the overall item is sturdy and rolls smoothly without wobbling off of center. The carpet liner is a tiny bit too wide and does not lay flat on the edges. About two weeks later, I heard rumbling in the night and there was one of the cats trying it out. They still have not fully learned to keep their claws retracted, but they have been experimenting and going onto the wheel at various times and for increasingly longer times. None of the cats have run, but they walk at a steady pace. This toy definitely has given them a distraction. The noise of the exercise wheel could be quieter... perhaps a better quality wheel? A nylon wheel? Ball bearings? It isn't loud enough that you cannot hear a television or carry on a conversation, but it is noticeable. If the sound was quieter, maybe the cats would use it longer? The price is worth it to me for the interaction my pets are getting out of it even if they only walk. I did debate between purchasing a treadmill and this exercise toy, but a treadmill would require supervision and I want my cats to use this equipment when they want not when I want them to exercise.

Not perfect but still deserves five stars. Prob not for de-clawed cats.
Firstly we have seven kitties in the home, and four of them took to the wheel immediately. They just understood it and were so curious, not shy at all. The other three have had curious moments but not really taken to it even after watching the other kitties. We’ve had the wheel assembled and available to them for over a month now and it’s working as well as when we first got it. It’s not very hard to move around once assembled but there is definitely some weight to both the wheel and the base, it’s best to move each piece separately. Assembly was definitely a task, and the instructions were pretty good, but we had to re-read some parts and figure it out a bit. We took several breaks. It probably took an hour to assemble, but with frequent breaks and taking it extra slow to make sure it’s done right, it took me closer to about 2 hours to assemble. It is very sturdy, there are no plastic supports or easily bendable/breakable parts which we appreciate. Everything we needed plus extras was available in the kit to complete the assembly. Our cats range from 7-12 pounds averaging around 10 pounds. This cat wheel is definitely large enough, but if I’m being honest, it could be bigger for my kitties that really want to RUN on it. The weight of it all I think keeps them at a certain pace. If the wheel gets going to fast they have to slow down because the weight of it will keep making it faster. At the same time it really takes some pushes for them to get it going. A casual stroll on it quickly comes to a stop unless they begin actively running again. The wheels range from quiet to loud. When a kitty is really going fast and running hard it definitely creates a noticeable humming sound. Overall the design is good but some attention to detail could go a long way. The edges of all the boards and pieces are sharp, not rounded or sanded down at all. One of our kitties did get going to fast at one point and upon trying to jump off the wheel their back leg whacked the edge of the boards and it caused a laceration on her leg that had to scab up and heal. She got back on the wheel but is afraid to go very fast unfortunately. The carpet for the inside is soft, but everything else is definitely hard and quite ridged. All of that said, we still feel like this product deserves five stars. It’s something our cats will grow with, providing lots of physical activity and adding to the playful nature of their environment here at camp kitty. We have plans to decorate the wheel, possibly add lights to it. We are likely going to buy a second wheel, perhaps the pink one now that it’s available. We have hopes our other kitties might eventually take a liking to the wheel, and perhaps they have they just don’t like an audience. If you have a multi-cat home, especially with younger cats, definitely try this cat wheel. If you’ve got a cat with high energy I would absolutely give the wheel a try. If you have a senior cat, one that’s particularly large like 13+ pounds or that struggles with mobility this might not be the wheel for them. I want to also mention because I know that unfortunately some cats get de-clawed, it’s not as common anymore, but worth pointing out that if your kitty doesn’t have their claws this wheel might be very difficult for them to use. They need to be able to grip the carpet to get the wheel spinning, to keep their balance and more. That’s why the inside is carpeted, not just to be soft, but so the kitties can grip it with their claws. Take caution if your kitty has no claws. If you’ve made it this far thank you so much for taking the time to read our review. Because we love cats we also love sharing our knowledge and experience with other cat caregivers, and learning along the way. Good luck on your cat wheel journey!

Instant love after careful assembly
Took some time and care to assemble but was worth it - my cat Winnie who needs the exercise loves it immediately! ASSEMBLY: I like that they include extras of the anchors (1 snapped) and long screws (i stripped 3 of them slightly and wanted perfect ones). The assembly video online is helpful if you're trying to do this perfect, especially since the instructions are mostly pictures with minimal text. A 2nd person is helpful during a few stages like flipping without accidentally snapping anything like I was afraid of doing. I also used some of the pieces to balance things. The materials are of sufficient quality and were packed well and arrived without any major scuffs. I split the assembly into 3-4 phases over the course of a week in my spare time after work. Overall it probably took about 3 hours but I was being extra careful and reading and studying the instructions and video throughout to avoid doing it wrong and having to try to undo or breaking something. Some notes from my assembly: - online instructions leave out part "T" - Step 04 diagram mislabelled and refers to part G when it should be parts "D" FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Sound wise it's not silent or quiet but has an acceptable level of "whoosh" sound while in motion and squeaks occasionally. I think I will get used to it which is good because it's in my bedroom and I know it will be used when I'm trying to sleep! More importantly the sound doesn't seem to bother my cats at all. My 5.5 month old kitten is interested and moved on it a bit but is still a little nervous; I am following the included directions with him and I think he will start using it soon, especially cuz his big "sister" / "step mom" who is about 1 year 4 months basically took right to it! I encouraged her with a toy to "climb" inside and once she saw it moving she fell in love with her new big toy. She seems to be trying to climb it, and she will jump on and sprint for several seconds in bursts. I am very happy she took to it immediately with hardly any initial encouragement and she is going on it all by herself without prompting - all on the first night of it being assembled. Definitely recommend this if your cat(s) need a bit of exercise to get fit - or even if they're in good shape and expend some of that pent up energy, as I'm sure most if not all indoor cats do.

Not awful, but not good.
Got this cat wheel for my big ol boy, who definitely needed something to help him exercise a bit. He's about 20 lbs, and this wheel is long and stable enough for him to run on comfortably. That said: I have some issues with the construction. They use plastic anchors to hold everything together. The issue with these is that they tend to sit somewhat proud of their holes, and the screws that are provided are a bit too small to really maintain a solid grip on the anchors. This combination of facts makes getting everything aligned a bit difficult. Some anchors compress, some do not. Misalignment will add resistance to the wheel being able to turn. Next, the wheels that are provided are...well...less than ideal. The load-bearing wheels are only about 38mm in diameter, and use a single ball bearing. The small size combined with the choppy construction of the plywood slats makes for a bumpy turning experience, and doesn't particularly motivate my cats to want to use this thing. I was able to drill out the larger wheels and replace them with slightly larger "luggage" wheels with dual bearings. This was a *Huge* improvement. Now the wheel will actually keep spinning for about half a turn if you push it by hand. It could still be better, and I may try tweaking a few other things as well. But given the cost this thing really ought to have slightly better rollers. Color? Well, the black paint on the sides has a tendency or chipping off at the edges. Not a huge fan of that. Honestly, would have preferred a natural finish. At least it didn't smell like death when I was putting it together. Honestly, there's another plastic model on here that I would probably have gone with if I wasn't afraid that my thiccc boy might not be comfortable on it. This review probably seems more negative than I mean it to be, but in truth it's mostly just my irritation at the poor choices in hardware. My cat loves it, and that's what matters.

Well made, fairly quiet
Let's get this one out of the way: It's expensive. That said, I was really impressed at how it was designed. It's the first piece of furniture I've assembled that actually used plastic anchor inserts to screw into. And all plywood, not particle board. I am hoping that the combination should make it safe to disassemble & reassemble multiple times. Everything was well packed and no damage during shipment. Package contents included a set of cotton gloves to use for the assembly (to limit splinters?) and a small piece of sandpaper in case there is any wood that needs to be sanded down (didn't need to use it). It also included spare screws and anchors. It included a screwdriver as well. Follow the assembly instructions, particularly the bit about not tightening everything initially. During the initial assembly I only slightly snugged the screws, and then backed out about a half turn or so, and only tightened everything down after it was fully assembled. I did the first few using a manual screwdriver to get a feel for how much effort was required, then I shifted to trying to use a drill driver set to a really low torque setting (I didn't go past 3 out of 20 on my drill), and I tried to stop before actually hitting the torque limiter. This meant I tended to start with the drill and then finish the snugging with the manual screwdriver. Once everything was fully assembled I went back around and tightened all of the screws using a manual screwdriver. Do keep in mind that this is large. I knew this, and it was the main reason I purchased it (I wanted the cats to be able to stretch out), but even so I was still a bit surprised at how big it was. Assembly can be done with one person (I did it by myself, aside some periodic "assistance" from the cats), but there are a couple steps that would be easier with two people simply due to the size. So far, out of 4 cats I've managed to get 1 to use it, and on the first day, using a combination of the included wand toy and laser pointer. One out of four might not sound great, but it is what I was hoping for. The youngest was running laps around the house so I was hoping this would give him an outlet without leaving a wake of destruction and so far it seems to have worked. If I can eventually get the older kids on it too that would just be a bonus. Sound-wise, it is audible when in use (as expected) but not obnoxious. I have it in the basement currently and when it is in use I can hear a slight rumbling at the top of the open stairway. There is no squeaking, squealing, or other annoying sounds. Update: Both of my boys are now using this, so that's 2 out of 4 cats using it which is even better than I had hoped for. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to get either of my girls to try it out yet. Update: One of the girls decided to try it out on her own. That makes 3 out of 4 cats using it, a 75% success rate!
