Question 1

If there is a power cut how long would this be able to run a normal wireless router? Thanks

Accepted Answer

The batteries, judging from the replacement items are around 90 VAh, so for a 15, 20? W router I would budget for at least 4 hours.

Question 2

Hi, Is it only the protection role the item provides to the equipments? Does it redress the current flow in pure sine wave form?

Accepted Answer

IT keeps my QNAP NAS box running for a pre-defined period. I set the USB UPS mode on my NAS box to initiate a shut down if power was not resumed within 1 minute to protect against data loss (in cache memory etc)

Question 3

Does the software run on linux? (via wine or virtualbox if necessary) please only answer if you know for certain. thank you.

Accepted Answer

The APCUPSD daemon will monitor this device over a USB connection.

You will want to run this service 24/7 on the host Linux OS in order to be able to shutdown your computer cleanly if the battery becomes very low.

There is a bit of configuration to be done but it's well documented. I've been running other APC models (Smart UPS which provide more information to APCUPSD) but this one is supported.

Question 4

Can this item be used on my 2014 imac please? i read on some of the answers on here that this device is not good for newer imacs

Accepted Answer

Dear Valued Customer,

Good day.

I understand that you want to know if BK650EI can be used to support your iMac 2014. Let me help you with this.

Most of the modern PCs utilize Power Factor Corrected (PFC) power supplies. Kindly be informed that BK650EI is not a suitable UPS for loads with active PFC. Reason behind is that the transfer time of this UPS is long enough to remove power from the PFC power supply, resulting in a momentary inrush of the PFC which may cause a potential overload condition or dropped load. To know more about this, please follow the link below:

You may want to use an SMT750I instead.
