Though very much an individual and spiritual artist, Alphonse Mucha was a defining figure of the Art Nouveau era and is loved for his distinctive lush style and images of beautiful women in arabesque poses among the plethora of paintings, posters, advertisements and designs he produced. Admire a whole range of his work here in its full glory with succinct accompanying text. Review: A really nice coffee table book :) - My Alphonse Mucha book arrived quickly before it's given E.T.A. packaged very safely bubble wrapped inside a 'dent proof' cardboard carton along with a free bookmark ( book is recessed within carton away from corners so as to avoid dings if the box should be dropped - a nice touch ). The book itself was less than half the price Waterstones are currently selling it for which is great , the pictures within are in great detail and colouring ( i'm unsure why a couple of prior reviews are negatively written re the colour and picture quality perhaps they were unlucky to have received a poor print run copy , the pictures themselves are accurate to the paintings Alphonse created some 129 years ago I guess if you want more colour saturation you would have to digitally enhance his work :) A lovely large book I'd definitely recommend and Ill certainly use Postcript books ago thanks . Review: Beautiful - Mucha was a supreme example of what became known as Art Nouveau. This volume of his works is superbly written and presented. The illustrations are magnificent, and the text and captions to the many illustrations are scholarly and meaningful.. My favourite is his classic portrayal of that great actress Sarah Bernhardt, which created a sensation when first revealed when she performed as Gismondai in Paris in 1894. I recommend this fine work to all readers who appreciates the use of colour and design in fine ar. Zeddyt.

Lovely sumptuous book
As a fan of this entire era of decorative art, this book was always on my radar. Whether it was advertising or some other everyday function, there is a lot to appreciate about Mucha every bit as much as for Maxfield Parrish and others working in this field. It's hard now to find examples of exuberant design for design's sake, where the everyday gets a bit of drama added to it simply because that's what we thought was necessary in that era. An era with flavour - whether you like it or not! If we no longer really live in a flamboyant decorative environment, we can at least live for a moment in one borrowed from yesteryear. The quality of the book, the printing, and the typography are all good, and complement the subject matter, doing it justice. It sits well with other books I have on that era.

Book arrived two days earlier than promised. Beautifully illustrated with informative text and a great appraisal of Much’s life and work. Well worth its original price but superb value at the price charged - less than half price. I have bought many books from this supplier and all have been excellent quality and value.Thankyou.

An otherwise great book let down by sepia toning over images
The Good: full page spreads of artwork and detail closeup of works with many of Mucha's famous posters and motifs. Delivery on time and book in good condition. Very good for study and drawing reference. Scale and ratio if book is excellent for displaying panels alongside each other and artwork seems to benefit from the 'sqaureness' of the book. The Bad: I had to send this back because of the strong sepia tone that seems to be applied to all the artwork which I now see has been echoed by others. Blues, Greens and purples are especially muted giving some works a very flat/ lifeless look. Happens to often to not be a stylistic choice. This is especially disappointing for works like the, "Moon and Stars" studies which have an obvious blue background and cold white moonlight emanating from the sources of light. In this book the blues have shifted to blacks and browns and the cold moonlight is now a yellowish amber completing ruining the intentions of the artist and the mood of the original pieces. Were it not for this strange colour choice/ shift in hues I would have happily kept this book. Also note that this bok does not feature Mucha's paintings towards the end of this life and sticks mainly tohis art noveau posters.
