Nice graphics but lots of issues.
I've been playing Tropico since it was first introduced by PopTop in 2001. After Kalypso took it over, there were some incremental improvements, with possibly the best version being Tropico 4. But #5 is a bust. It's nothing more than a dumbed-down version of a once great game. For example, you no longer have any real control over El Presidente's personality. In older versions, you could pick a couple of 'good' qualities, like being diplomatic and having a green thumb, which reduced pollution. And of course, you had to pick 2 flaws, like 'womanizer' or 'alcoholic'. But for some crazy reason, Kalypso now thinks it's more important to focus on silly superficial things like appearance. There are numerous choices for everything from hairstyle to the color of clothing. But my biggest gripe with this latest version is that there is no real way to control immigration. Older versions allowed you to build an Immigration Office. With the setting at 'Tropico First', that pretty much shut down the incoming immigrants. Not so with this version. There is no immigration office and boy do you get the immigrants. You can make changes to your constitution on immigration, but I never saw any real effect. On the plus side, you always have a ready supply of workers for your farms, factories, mines and other buildings. But on the downside, you're constantly struggling to provide those jobs. In the end, it isn't long before your infrastructure is under severe strain because it's just impossible to ever have enough jobs, enough healthcare, enough housing, enough entertainment, etc. Before you know it, you're in danger of being voted out or overthrown by a rebel uprising. Playing has become more of a chore than a pleasure. On the plus side, I did appreciate the improved graphics. The simple 'country house' actually looks like a decent place to live, versus a glorified shack as it appeared in older games. It also allows the residents to have a garden that provides food, a nice touch. The apartments and tenements appear nicer as well. Most of the industry buildings have a more authentic appearance, especially the cannery. The farms are neater, but much larger. But once you get past the 'easy on the eyes' appeal, the game itself is plagued with repetitive issues, usually caused by the never-ending flow of immigrants. I can only hope these problems are addressed in the next version.

Be the despot of the city in this good city builder game
I've always loved the Tropico games, it was the politics all through the game that did it for me. The only thing it is now trying to compete is a city builder type of game and neglecting the political side of the game. It still has a lot of intrigue and I still enjoy it and that's why it gets 4 stars. I just think number 4 was better. Even so this is still a great game and you won't be disappointed

Esperienza di gioco molto coinvolgente
Gioco veramente bello e completo! Avevo il timore di dover giocare in inglese, ma durante l'installazione il programma ha scarica i files in lingua italiana (quasi due GB). Esperienza di gioco molto coinvolgente, come tutti i capitoli precedenti!
