Shakespeare Cypry XT FS Freespool Fishing Reel - Carp Fishing Runner Style Reel For Bait Fishing - Carp, Barbel, Tench, Bream

So, the first reel delivered was faulty (freespool mechanism not engaging) so sent back. Replacement seemed perfectly good and having always bought Shakespeare I thought the fault was a flash in the pan. However, I've just been out today and the exact same issue has occurred. Engaged the freespool but doesn't dis-engage when you start to reel in. I'd say there's an issue with the internal workings, probably some cheap Chinese made mechanism or teeth have broken perhaps? Anyway, now have another normal reel - didn't get a response from Shakespeare when I e-mailed them about this the first time and they've now lost a customer of 40 yrs. Used to be top gear, I'd suggest it isn't any longer and wouldn't recommend this reel :(

Purchased 2 ..one works well no problem..second one started to make a grinding sound while reeling in..removed spool to find springs and clips loose inside ...only used once and past return deadline so i guess I am stuck with it

Poor quality for small carp, cannot handle being pulled, small spring that engages the clutch in this reel stretches easily when the bait runner is in use, don’t recommend these reels unless your fishing very lightly , otherwise they would be ok.

Works great. looks and feels good quality as you would expect with Shakespeare

Firstly it states on box it has a spare graphite spool but was not in the box. I contacted Shakespeare who just said it shouldn't say that as it doesn't come with spare.Secondly bait runner broke after 3rd use. Can't send back as I took it apart on the bank to disconnect the bait runner linkage. So now have a bait runner reel with no bait runner option and no spare spool. Shakespeare not helpful at all. I won't buy Shakespeare again.
