Does this have to be assembled ?

Yes it does have to be assembled, which would be no problem if you have all the bits. I had one piece missing and they told me to return the whole thing instead of send the missing part. As returning would cost more than the item I decided to keep it and hopefully source the missing part myself. Hope this helps.
