Optoma UHZ66 Compact Long Throw True 4K UHD Laser Home Cinema and Gaming Projector, 4000 Lumens

Amazing picture quality; brightness, clarity and color all beautiful. Low noise. Needed to adjust to HDR brightness for my room but very easy to do. Using this for UHD Bluray 2D/3D, 4k Firestick, PS5 Pro and Switch 2. All run great and the 3D movies are incredible; very colorful and crisp (way better than at the movies). Very pleased overall!

Awesome addition to our family gaming experiences as well as super clear images and brightness for movies and sporting events. The laser projection is definitely a step up from the projector we had before. A worthwhile investment.

I previously owned an Optoma HD20. I got 10 years out of it before it pooped out. I use my projector as my everyday TV. So it gets used alot. Was wanting to get into the laser 4k market so that I wouldn't have to mess with replacing lamps. I zeroed in on the Optoma UHZ66. I read all of the reviews and was very skeptical because there really weren't many postitive reviews. So I took a chance. Got it for $1499. It had been listing at $1999. All I have to say it wow. The picture is amazing. My home theater is in my basement so there is no external lighting. I had to set the source light to 80% because it was so bright. I can't believe how crystal clear the image is. Setup was a breeze. Used the same ceiling mount. Not many channels are 4K but I watched the NFL playoffs and OMG. 4K is the real deal. The picture clarity is astounding. Watched Top Gun Maverick and it just popped. Amazing detail. Another positive is that when I changed it to 80% light source, the projector makes almost no discernable noise. Just a light hum. Seems like half of the fan noise that my HD20 produced. Focus is easy with the adjustable dial. Also the throw distance can be adjusted with the 2nd dial as well. Remote is super small which is kind of funny but it works. I've set up my system so that my 4k Firestick turns everything on and off and controlls the volume. Below are two pictures I took. First one is in HD and 2nd is 4k. Just unbelievable how clear it is. It's like being at the game. So if you are on the fence then jump off and buy the UHZ66. You won't be disappointed.

After trying a couple benq projectors it's clear that their advertised specs like lumens and contrast aren't real. The menu is archaic and colors need a lot of adjustment. I went with the valerion pro 2 and not looking back. Less "rated" lumens but dramatically brighter in day and light on viewing its not even close. Colors accurate out of the box. Additional features like automatic keystone and focus, dolby vision, and motion handling make the optima look like a school projector.

I upgraded this from an 8-year-old HD Optoma (which we’ve loved). This newer model has been fantastic. Brighter, sharper picture with fabulous contrast. PRO TIP: I discovered the hard way that none of my old HDMI cables or switches would work (e.g., I have an HDMI/audio splitter so I can send the video signal to the projector and the audio to my Sonos speaker system). None of the old HD cabling or devices will work with a 4k projector, particularly if (a) you want to access all of the projector’s features (e.g., image presets, detailed image controls) or (b) you want to stream video in 4k. This layer issue is due to copyright protections on 4k video streams. Make sure your cables and devices are HDCP 2.2/2.3 compliant.

We purchased this projector for church use based on other person recommendation and overall review. we received this projector and tested on the table with SHORT HDMI cable 2ft and 5Ft with computer and Blue ray player, everything seems worked fine. So, we wend ahead and install it on the ceiling in a church hall and this is where problem started - it simply wont connect to any HDMI input and would NOT show any pictures. The NEW HDMI cable from floor to ceiling about 12-15ft, it is high end cable, not cheap one. Once this issue presented we try this cable with other projector - works fine, we go another HDMI 15ft cable and try to connect to this projector and same thing - NO picture, just keep searching for input data. Our initial though was- defective projector, so we asked the guy who recommended this project to test his projector at home with long HDMI cable - and goes what- SAME issue - NO VIDEO WITH LONGER HDMI CABLE!!! I start Googling this projector to see if anyone complain about similar issue and I found plenty and also MANY complain about none existence of support from manufacturer. So, we are returning this and going with other brand. :-(

Took some time learning all the adjustment which are many, but positively make it personal. Have been using this projector for four months. Would recommend!

Update: One thing Optoma tech support confirmed is that all Optoma projectors use a color wheel to make single Laser to RGB. This is less advanced based on current projector technology. UHZ66 is one of my bast projectors. Having a tri laser UST, and a single laser long throw with colorwheel before. Found why there were low review ratings was due to the mix of older models with UHZ66 together and I was concerned before. Did research from the similar price ranges, some got bad chromatic dispersion and made me dizziness when watching white text. Picked up UHZ66 and no regret. Color is accurate after increased RED via CMS tune. You can make more pop and colorful images but I'd like more natural images. Auto switch to HDR mode based on the source. Brightness of 4000 ansi lumens is more than enough under daylight or lights. I tuned light source mode to 80% and that's enough for most watching. Four cornor and 5x3 warp are so good to adjust a little off center placement to fit the screen so much better than the simple keystone. Got this one to replace a dead LG HU80Ka got 6 years ago in the eat-in kitchen with 120in motorized drop down screen. This is a simple, compact, no smart but a great displayer. Only one most important thing to a projector is its image quality and UHZ66 is just for that. This one is way better than the one replaced. Although it is only one laser light, but no colorwheel and it is almost comparable to the 3 laser UST in my familyroom. You just need to add a content streamer, like Amazon Fire 4k TV, and a sound bar, like Amazon Soundbar with a universal remoter like Sofabaton i got. The speaker on the projector is only for system sound. A wifi streamer and a soundbar are must. Although the soundbar is capable with Bluetooth, I still use hdmi to make the direct connection. I highly recommend UHZ66.

I am amazed at the quality! 4k with gspro graphics are out of this work! Super bright, set up was a breeze 😎 this is definitely an upgrade for my golf simulator!

Use this daily for movies and/or gaming. Replaced a benq w6000 which was a light canon. Was pleased that this projector can easily light up the 180" screen as well. It is limited on zoom compared to my previous projector but If it helps anyone I throw from 33' and it's still super bright in a room with controlled lighting and it fills the screen properly.

We were hoping for a better product from Optoma. The picture is actually VERY good but the interface is glitchy. It constantly tries to connect to the source (i.e. AVR) - even when one episode ends and the next starts. When it does this, the HDR signal stutters and the colour flashes. This is with a brand new Denon AVR, Ruipro optical HDMI cable and hardwired Google Streamer and internet running at almost 1000mbs. We returned it. Maybe it was a defective unit??

Its bright and sharp, but comparing with a 2800 and 3000 ansi lumens projector side by side, it’s not brighter… for the price and whats available on the market, this projector shouldnt have been more than 2000$… the viewsonic looks better and is brighter for only 1300$.

Disappointed. For the amount of $ the reds look like orange. Customer Service said that's normal. They sent a standard not my issue but your issue statement: UHZ66 projector having a DCI P3 color space coverage of ~75%, whereas the Samsung displays have a 97.4% coverage of the DCI P3 color space. This discrepancy is noticeable, especially when comparing a compact "AMOLED" display to a projected 4K image. Screen Technology: The type of display technology used also plays a significant role. OLED and AMOLED screens, commonly found in high-end smartphones, offer advantages such as perfect blacks, a wide color gamut, and fast response times. While projectors are improving, they may still lag behind in these areas. Based on the images you have submitted, Optoma believes that the image quality is within our specified parameters. So disappointing. But I will say the service group replied quickly. But I returned this because I think red should be red.
