How accurate is the collection of ring sizers?

I'm not jewler so my perspective is very narrow. I think it's very accurate, I bought a cheap ring online, I ordered a size 12, but the ring felt to snug on my finger, I checked and it was less than 12 I forgot what size it is but it was less than 12, maybe a quarter size less according to the post that comes with the kit.
