What level of hold does this balm provide?

It definitely has a medium hold that’s not too harsh on your hair. I personally like it because it also leaves a healthy shine that’s not too bright.

My wife doesn't like the scent of mango butter, which this balm has. Does the natural screen go away or can you smell the mango butter all day?

It doesn't really smell like anything.

Is this more like a cream, wax or oil?

Somewhere between a thick cream and light wax. Would probably even call it a paste. You have to warm it up in your hand just a little bit when it's cold

Is this for hair styling?

It can be. It is very thick in the jar, but once it is warmed up by rubbing it in your hands, it becomes viscous (think olive oil). Great for beards, fair for hair (can make it look greasy), and is a quick fix for dry skin. The "utility balm" is just that, fairly universal use, with some better uses than others.
