Question 2

Does it put a strain on older cats?

We have four cats: a very sprightly 20 year old (who can still jump on counters), a 13 year old couch potato, and two young cats (2 and 3 years old). The younger cats immediately adapted; no problem. Neither the 20 YO or the 13 YO would ever use the ModKat, which we quite liked otherwise. So--not a strain, obviously, for the 20 YO--she just refused to use it. Can't teach an old cat new tricks, apparently.

Question 3

Is this too big for a 7-8 week old kitten?

I think it's best to stick to a good ol' rectangular open litter box for a kitten for now. Your kitten is getting used to many things and changing the litter box dramatically may put off the kitten from using it.  Before the kitten is fixed, it's more likely they will spray outside of the litter box.  Once the kitten is fixed and is bigger, try different types of litter box.  It will be great if the Modkat Litter Box works for your cat.  It does do a good job of keeping the litter in the litter box.

Hi! I'm really interested in getting this box . How large is the hole for the cats to use to get in? I have 1 cat that's about 15 pounds. Thx!

We love our Modkat!  My Russian Blue is one years old and 10 pounds, they have, I think, long bodies.  He has no problem jumping up and manuvering once inside.  On the Modko website, it states the opening is 8.5 inches at its smallest point (9 and 9.5 inches at larger points).  The opening is not quite a circle but you can see the shape and read about it on their website.  I think your cat would be fine - but I would not recommend this litter box for an elderly cat as jumping up and getting into the opening may be difficult for them.  Also, this is a good litter box for cats that like and are use to litter boxes with a top.  If your cat does not like enclosure type litter boxes (if they use just an open box bottom)  they may not like an enclosure. Please let me know if you need any more info.
