Highly Sensitive Geiger Counter on a Budget!
This is a fantastic Geiger counter for the cost. It appears to be way more sensitive (by distance from a known radioactive source -see photos) than I would have expected from the price point -especially if you get it while on-sale. The battery life is fantastic, lasting several days on a single charge. The graphics are easy to follow but unfortunately are predefined, not allowing the user to customize the appearance of the graph apart from the time points. The “click” sound is accurate, and reflects each radiation count without maxing-out into a continuous beep. The color-coded danger bar is a nice touch that changes based on current detection levels. When in the “green” zone, the light at the top of the unit blinks green with each count. When in the Yellow zone, it alarms (if you have it set to do so at that level, which is adjustable and user defined) and the light blinks yellow. When in the red zone the unit vibrates, beeps loudly, and the light blinks red. The unit can measure the expected units “CPM, uSv/h, mR/h, and CPS”. I’ve included photos showing the awesome sensitivity of this unit at progressively closer distances to a Geiger Test Card (known radiation source). The first photo shows background levels (which fluctuates up and down, naturally). The next photo shows a distance of 30 inches from the test source -it picks up the card at the distance, which had be incredibly impressed. Next I show the unit at 20 inches, 10”, 5”, and 1” where I hold the card up to show it’s presence. The next two photos show the Geiger Counter directly placed on top of the test card, as the bare-unit and then while in the case (which drops the detection count significantly, unfortunately). The last photo shows my radiation source. I am beyond impressed. The test card has a maximum detection lever reported as being between 1000-4000 CPM, and this unit captured an impressive 3200 CPM. I highly recommend this product. It is from Seattle, WA which was also a selling point for me -being a home grown company. Enjoy!

Love it.
Great product. I love playing around with this thing. Testing all our dishes, rocks, antiques, you name it...I've tested it. Easy to use and learn. Menu is simple. Lightweight and compact design. Removable and rechargeable battery is awesome. From what I can tell seems to be pretty accurate. Nice case to add durability with a belt loop to add some versatility. The only negative i noticed so far is the sensor is on the side rather that the front, but this is indicated on the back of the device.

Works great and is very easy to use.
Works great and easy to use. Since there seems to be an increasing chance of needing to assess a fallout situation, I purchased this geiger counter as part of a backup plan. Because of the low price point, my expectations were low. It sat on my shelf for almost two years without being tested, but that changed after I got home from a heart MRI with a radioactive isotope injection (heart test came out great). When I got home, for fun I fired up the geiger counter to see how "hot" I was. I just hit the power button and it fired right up and started giving me readings. I was quite "hot" but within limits for this type of medical test. I was surprised how accurate the geiger was and how easy it was to read and interpret the results. Highly recommend this product. For the price it could be a life saver if a fallout situation ever occurs.

Definately read the directions, FIRST :)
The girls recently learned about radioactive glass and then about the Radium Girls. So, we ended getting a couple of pieces of glass from some friends. This then turned into another one of the learning fun experiences. I ended up buying this radiac based on some environmental safety guys I know recommendations and the fact that it is made in the USA. It is light weight, easy to read/use and has all sorts of customization settings. The battery is a AA rechargeable in a normal battery compartment easy to swap out. You can charge it and use it at the same time or just pop the dead battery out and install a regular AA in its place and continue finding cool stuff at thrift/junk stores. Make sure you read the directions first. Setting the detection side so that it touches is not the correct way. You will get a false reading. Based on the average listings on the NRC site, all the stuff we checked fell into the window average. I do not plan on taking it in for a serious calibration but I do not doubt that it is with in National specs. Shows different types of exposure ratings and can be uploaded onto a computer with a history. Just a stroll through walmart was a learning experience for my girls. This model can be set up to use one of 5 different alert methods or combinations of them. It looks like a cell phone from a distance so you do not attract attention while scanning items. The HAZMAT firefighter knew what it was and gave us a thumbs up. Very cool toy-tool and we can't wait to go out radiation hunting in some of our junk stores.

Fascinating as a toy besides its more practical uses
A very affordable and well made item with a large, colorful display that is easy to read and with pages and pages of different displays allowing you to customize what you want to see and how you want to see it. This is a "smart" device that can link to your PC and through the cable, the battery is kept charged for two or three days of field surveys. More if you turn it off between uses. I bought this just for the fun of detecting uranium in the Chinle and Morrison geologic formations of the Colorado Plateau and seeing for myself that genuine dinosaur bones and petrified wood from those formations can be quite radioactive. As mentioned, I bought this just for fun and not for any practical, safety or economic reasons. Unfortunately I have not had an opportunity to use the device for its intended purpose, but I have confirmed that the unit is functioning well. It sure would be nice to have a counter that displayed actual EVs of the radiation so that I could tell just what radioactive elements are present, but they cost more and for me, it just for a whim more than anything else. When visiting dinosaur museums, I'll turn off all alarms and sounds so as not to panic the public if a bone proves to be a bit "spicy" and I recommend others do so too.

Great for post-medical tracking
I got this for use after a radiation treatment, both to measure myself and to measure things like clothes, surfaces, and bedding to ensure they’re clean enough after the isolation period. It’s been great for that purpose, and very easy to use. While I have no way of calibrating precisely, the background looks reasonable and for measuring myself while the levels themselves are quite high (100,000+ now down to near 1,000) the trend has matched what I expected in terms of the timeline to expel the excess radioactive material from the body matching the isolation guidelines from the nuclear medicine department as well as where the peaks in my body are. It’s also been useful for simple questions like whether laundry needed to be run a second cycle or whether the bathrooms are clean enough (since you can’t see radiation). The only minor concern is it does seem to have a bit of inconsistency if I measure several times in a short window, maybe +/- 10% even at high levels, albeit that’s still good enough for my purposes. And it’s non-directional so pretty hard to measure other things when you yourself are radioactive… need to leave it somewhere, run away, then come back and see where it was before it spikes up again to greet you. Overall very happy with it for my niche purpose and it’s helped fill some of the isolation boredom.

Outstanding Performance and User-Friendly Design
I recently purchased the GQ GMC-800 Geiger Counter and am thoroughly impressed with its capabilities. This latest model from GQ Electronics USA offers unparalleled sensitivity and precision in detecting nuclear radiation, including Beta, Gamma, and X-ray. What sets this device apart is its multifunctionality – it’s not just a traditional Geiger counter but also includes real-time measurement, dosimeter functions, and radiation monitoring, making it suitable for both personal and group use. The accuracy of this device is noteworthy, adhering to the USA national standards (NIST & NRC), with meticulous calibration to ensure reliable data. Its user-friendly interface, including a clear TFT color LCD display, makes it easy to navigate and understand, even for beginners. The device is conveniently portable, robust in build, and features a readable screen under sunlight, perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. What I appreciate most are the five types of radiation alarms – visual, audio, vibration, and voice, accommodating all user needs, including those who are vision or hearing impaired. The ability to set alarm thresholds and the integration of advanced features like a built-in clock, extensive data storage, and free data processing software add significant value. In conclusion, the GQ GMC-800 is a top-tier Geiger counter that offers precision, versatility, and user-friendly operation. Whether for educational, professional, or personal use, it's an excellent investment for anyone needing reliable radiation detection and monitoring.

Works well!
Received quickly and works well. I can't vouch for accuracy as I don't have anything to compare it to, but I put it close to my smoke detector (they all contain Americium) and it did pick up the radiation. Very easy to use, highly recommended!
